b&w, group of men standing on a road being built. Avrum Katz, a civil engineer can be seen 4th from the left. The road is located between the city of Kowel and Vledema. Narrative: Awrum Katz was the donor's father. Born in 1892, Awrum Katz was married to Rebecca Pfeffer. He worked as a civil engineer. They moved to England in 1939, with their children Rose and Moshe. From England they travelled to New York to attend the World Fair. They were denied citizenship in the USA and later settled in Montreal. Avrum worked as a peddler and attended university at night to become a civil engineer. He died in 1942.

Outside. A mid-sized building. The sign on the front of the building is written in Slovak (translation) "National Vocational Training School". Several children are seen in front of the building, most have their backs facing the camera. Several trees are around the building on the left-hand side. Narrative: Donor is the wife of Viktor Matus (born Victor Neumann), who survived the war in hiding and came to Montreal in 1949. From Hlohovec, Czechoslovakia. Two older brothers André and Otto were killed in January 1945 uprising. Parents were deported and killed in Auschwitz. Brother Marcel Neumann survived.

The stretchers are lined up perpendicular to the wall and the windows are all open. Opposite the prisoners sit two soldiers, talking to them; the soldiers' faces are not visible.

White border with black photograph adhesive corner on top right side. Outdoor scene. Pile of emaciated corpses in front of a camp building, maybe a crematorium; some are naked others have clothes. The photograph was taken in Dachau concentration camp upon Liberation of the concentration camp by the U.S. Seventh Army's 45th Infantry Division.

Letters and postcards some handwritten and some typed. Letters and postcards were send by and to members of Mauer family and Zarkower family between members of the family living in Poland and others who had immigrated to Canada and the United States of America. Correspondence spans from 1939 to 1948. Narrative: Biographical note: Erika Maltin nee Zarkower is the daughter of Leon (Lonio) Zarkower born in 1900 and Mina Zarkower née Mauer born on March 25, 1899. she has an older sister named Bronia and a younger brother called Arian. They came from Makymowka, Poland and immigrated to Canada on May 1939 as farmers. When Erika's family still lived in Poland, the paternal grandparents, Jakob Zarkower and Dina Zarkower lived in a close by village named Stryjuwka.

Circular-shaped. Obverse side has a high-relief image of a lady looking to her left, with her foot resting on a helmet; a sun burst comes out from behind the helmet. In her left hand she is holding a dagger, in her right, a stake. The reverse side has a high-relief feather in the middle. A sphere-shaped suspender ring is attached at the top centre edge. Hanging from the ring is a pleated ribbon with a red centre, white borders and rainbow stripes on both sides; ribbon is attached at the top to a hook and eye pin. The separate pin to go with this has a rectangular metal base, covered with a shiny, ridged material: blue, with 2 thick bands of alternating coloured stripes on either side, with a thin band of alternating coloured stripes in the middle. The reverse reveals the metal base: cut in the middle, ends folding upwards with a hook and eye pin at the top. Housed in a textured blue box, with a semi-circle cut out of the front lip at the bottom; the top and bottom are taped together, with an additional white sticker (see inscription). Inside is removable cardboard back and support with a fuzzy top and a slit cut out where the medal rests. Narrative: Campaign and service medal, Victory World War II
