3. Obituary, SHAPIRO, Colonel Benjamin, Member of the Order of Canada. Peacefully, on Monday, June 1, 2015 at age 92. Beloved husband of Glee Shapiro. Son of the late Abraham and Faige Shapiro. Dear brother of the late Sidney and Sam Shapiro. Uncle to Jane and Steve (Pat) Shapiro. Great- uncle to Emily Shapiro. Fondly remembered by the Jessee family; Kim, Glee Ann, Lyn, Wayne and brothers-in-law of Wilse and Fred. Ben had a 50 year distinguished military career. He commanded the 30th Field Artillery regiment "Bytown Gunners" and his regiment was presented with "the Freedom of the City" by the City of Ottawa. He was appointed Commander of the Ottawa Militia District. He was honoured by being appointed an Honourary Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General of Canada, the Right Honourable Roland Mitchner. He held various Senior positions with the Conference of Defence Associations, and the Royal Canadian Artillery Association. He held various positions as Canada's representative for militia to NATO. Chairman of the Board of Governors, Ottawa Division, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Member of the Ottawa Rough Riders Football Club – 1946. Funeral Service held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.. Interment at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street.
