OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, September 30, 1963, Page 16 At Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sept. 28, 1963, Henry Berman of 12 Weldon Street, survived by two daughters and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 29 from the vestry of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue at 2:30 p.m. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.356. Portrait, B&W, Outdoors, Border. Portrait of Bertram Ellison wearing a suit jacket, and a collared shirt. He is smiling and looking at the camera. He has his hands in his pants pockets, and is leaning against a railing. Narrative: Bertram Ellison (donor's uncle) was born on March 19 1909 in Montreal. He was born into a Jewish family, and was an insurance broker before the war. He joined the Canadian Army on June 5th 1941 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Between 1941 and 1945 he rose to the rank of major, and received 6 medals, including the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire which he received on December 18t 1945. He was part of the 21st Army Group, which was formed on July 9th 1943 by the 2nd British and 1st Canadian Army for a North Western European Invasion. While apart of the 21st Army Group, he saw Bergen-Belsen. Bertram Ellison sailed home on the RMS Queen Elisabeth on December 3rd – 9th 1945.

OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal , April 16, 1942 Mrs. Mary Berman Dies At Sackville; Funeral Service Will Be Held Here This Afternoon Mrs. Mary Berman, wife of Henry Berman, died early yesterday morning at her home in Sackville. Mrs. Berman,whose husband is prominent in Sackville community affairs, took an active part in the work of the Red Cross and other charitable organizations. She traveled widely and was known as a brilliant conversationalist and a popular lecturer. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Max Rose of Saint John, and was well known in this city. Surviving here are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Guss, Sackville, and Mrs. Aaron Brown, Montreal. The body arrived here yesterday afternoon, accompanied by Mr. Berman and Mrs. Guss and will rest at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King St. East, until this afternoon, when the funeral will be held. Interment in Hebrew plot at Fernhill Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.197. Memorial plaque in synagogue: Abraham E. Smith - C4 .
