- The Ottawa Torah Institute (OTI) is the Ottawa Jewish community high school for boys providing advanced studies in Tanakh, Talmud and Halakha as well as the full Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum for Grades 9 to 12. Founded in 1982, it was Ottawa’s first full-time Jewish high school. In 2001, the Fraser Institute of Canada ranked OTI as the number one high school in the Province of Ontario. The yeshiva is headed by the Israel born HaRav Eliezer Ben-Porat, shlita, who holds several rabbinical ordinations and has authored a number of Hebraic books and articles. He was a commander in the Israel Defence Forces during the Yom Kippur War. The assistant Judaic Principal is Rabbi Dovid Boruch Clinton. Machon Sarah High School was established in 1990, in honour of Sarah Schenirer who pioneered higher Jewish education for young women. It operates at a separate campus while sharing OTI’s teaching staff. Based on the model of the Bais Yaakov schools, the curriculum provides an in depth study of Humash, Navi, Hebrew, Jewish history, laws and customs, coupled with the Grades 9-12 curriculum of the Ontario Ministry of Education.
