- Gordon Caplan (b. 1901 - d. November 25, 1990) was born in Ottawa, the son of Caspar Caplan and Dora Roston. His brothers were Samuel (b. 1898 - d.1983), and David (d. March 8, 1994) and his sisters were Miriam (d. March 5, 1997)(m. Max Wershof), Leslie (Lessie) (d. September 20, 1988) (m.E. Roston), and Lillian (d. August 21, 1978) (m. Louis Wolfe). Sam married Marcia Clarice Singer of Montreal in August, 1936. David did not marry. Gordon married Etta Bender (b.1912 - d.1987) of Hamilton. They had two daughters, Joan (b. 1935) and Lillian (b. 1942). Joan married Manuel Gluck in 1956 and had four children; Carl, Laurie, Tim and Paula. Lillian married Steve Vineburg in 1963. They had three children; Scott, Shanna and Ross. Gordon started working at his father's store in 1917 and later operated C. Caplan Ltd with his brother Sam. Caplan's celebrated its 75th anniversary at their Rideau Street location in 1972. The store went out of business in 1984 after over 80 years in business. Gordon Caplan was the Chief Buyer for Caplan's and a well-respected business owner. Gordon was a member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Ottawa Hospital and a member of the Kiwanas Club of Ottawa.
