- History / Biographical
- Gordon Shore was born in Ottawa in 1920, the son of Joe and Sarah Shore (d. February 12, 1941). He attended Osgoode and York Street Public Schools then attended Lisgar Collegiate between fall 1933 to spring 1937. He participated in track and field and junior basketball. Gordon and his brother Mannie were members of the Maccabean Athletic Association. He enlisted in 1940 and served overseas in England and Scotland with a forestry unit. Gordon always enjoyed track and field and participated in a Special Field Day at Aldershot, England, while overseas. He had the rank of staff sergeant when he was discharged at the end of World War II. Gordon returned to Ottawa after the war and worked for the Federal Civil Service. In 1949 he married Edith Daniels and had a son, Brian Shore. He retired to Montreal.
