- Akiva School is a private Montreal Jewish day school founded in 1968 by Rabbi Dr. David Hartman and a group of parents. The school's original location was at the Snowden YM-YWHA, located on the corner of Westbury and Cote Ste-Catherine. After moving from its Snowden location to the Beth El Synagogue in Town of Mount Royal, the school experienced several years of declining enrollment and budgetary restraints. In 1988, the school moved again, this time to the school building attached to the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue. A more central location, coupled with new leadership, stabilized the school and rapid growth soon followed. The school was founded on a vision of being a community that "inspires lifelong learning, religious growth, an enduring connection to the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and a commitment to making the world a better place." Akiva school offers education from kindergarten to grade six, following provincial curriculum as well as Judaic Studies (including Hebrew). A Section Francaise was added to the school to accomodate students who did not meet provincial elgibility requirements for an English school certificate. As of 2009, the school had an enrollment of 350 students.

- History / Biographical
- From 1909-1942, the Jewish community of Montreal supported two orphanages, the Montreal Hebrew Orphans' Home on Claremont Avenue in Westmount (1909-1942), run by the Baron de Hirsch Institute, and the Montefiore Hebrew Orphans' Home on Jeanne Mance Street (1918-1936). Children who entered the orphanages were not necessarily without parents, but sometimes their families were unable to care for them because of extreme poverty. Children were required to leave the orphanage at age 16. The orphanages were first opened to care for Jewish children fleeing Eastern Europe, war and persecution. In 2002, Judy Gordon, who is married to a former resident of the orphanages, researched and wrote a book entitled, "Four Hundred Brothers and Sisters".

- Photographic essay by Liliane Aberman depicting the making of 'Shmura Matzo' at a Montreal factory. Three flyers advertising 'Shmura Matzos.'
- Of her work, the artist states, "In March 1995, a few days before Passover, I was introduced to the matza factory. The factory, prepares Shmura matza and was at this time in the accellerated tempo of full production. I was fascinated by the sights and sounds of this industrious place especially because it seemed to emerge out of a bygone era. Everything here is done by hand, untouched by the mechanization of the western world.
- As I observed the work in progress, it seemed to me that I was a spectator at a ballet of sorts where each individual fit into a perfectly orchestrated series of steps. There are no extraneous movements and no wasted time, as each batch of matza must be prepared within 14 min. These photographs are a selection of the images taken at the matza factory and record the process of preparing the matza." - Liliane Aberman
