- History / Biographical
- Miriam (Dobrow) Goldstein (b. 1921 - d. December 1, 1999) was the daughter of Fanny and Abraham Dobrow, born in Romania while the family was travelling from Russia to Canada. Miriam was educated in Ottawa at York Street School and the High School of Commerce. She worked for the Federal Civil Service until her marriage to Louis Goldstein in 1944. A dedicated volunteer worker for Hadassah Wizo, Miriam acted as chairperson for the State of Israel Bonds. She also returned to the labour force, working on the Administrative Staff of Carleton University from 1968 to 1985. Louis and Miriam had three children, Eileen, Adele and Sidney (b. February 28, 1947). Louis Goldstein arrived in Ottawa October 25, 1936. He was born in Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia and travelled to Ottawa with his sister Shari and brother Leo. An uncle Samuel Gluck, Czechoslovakian born and subsequently an Ottawa business man, escorted the three to Ottawa. After finishing Grade 8, and working briefly with his brothers, Louis enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he went into the electrical business with his two older brothers, Sam and Harry (see possible photograph of Sam Goldstein - 1-949).
