History / Biographical
The Emunah Women of Ottawa was organized in 1940 by Mrs. I.I Lieff under the name Mizrachi Women's organization of Ottawa. After its founding, the organization became affiliated with the Mizrachi Women of America. Mrs. F. Rochlan served as the first president of the Ottawa chapter. Mrs. Hy Bessin was a later president. In 1942 the Rachel Kizell chapter was founded by her daughter, Helen Beiles. The organization grew quickly and on February 4, 1943 received Letters Patent as a charitable non-profit under the name Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi Women's Organization of Canada. The name was effectively changed on May 21, 1984 to Emunah Women of Canada. The chapter is dedicated to upholding the constituted mission of the national organization to foster the advancement of education and social welfare in Israel and provide care for vulnerable children. Through fundraiser's, such as the annual Phantom Tea, the Emunah Women of Ottawa raise funds for the support and development of education and family life in Israel. A "Mother In Israel" project is hosted annually.
