OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, November 18, 1961 Louis Baxt Dies in 90th year A retired businessman of this city, Louis Baxt, died early this morning in the Saint John General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Baxt, who was in his 90th year, was born in Malitopol, Russia, and came to Saint John in September, 1940. He had resided here ever since that time. His wife died on June 8th 1959. Surviving are two sons, Jack J. Baxt, Lancaster and Harry Baxt, Toronto Ont.; One daughter, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Mass, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2'oclock. Internment was at Fernhill Cemetery. Evening Times Globe Saturday, November 18, 1961 JM 2000.5.4 Funeral Held Funeral services were held form the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue Friday for Louis Baxt, whose death occurred at the Saint John General Hospital following a lengthy illness. The services were conducted by Cantor B. Silverberg. Born in Malitopol, Russia, Mr. Baxt was in 90th year. He came to Canada 57 years ago and has since resided in Saint John. He is survived by two sons, Jack J Baxt, Lancaster and Harry Baxt, Toronto; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Mass; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment took place in Shaarei Zedek Synagogue Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.116. Memorial plaque in synagogue: Jack and Rose Freedman - B1 .
