This man is Pauline Cohen's (the donor) friend Srulek Rubel and the photo was an ID for a soccer team. Narrative: Srulek Rubel fought in the Warsaw ghetto underground and was killed during the Warsaw ghetto uprising.

Postcard showing the S.S. Bremen on its first voyage. Short message written on back from Joseph Poll to his wife Minnie Lew.This card was sent by Joseph (father of the donor, Pauline Cohen Lew) while he was working as a book publisher in San Diego 1930. Narrative: The S.S. Bremen was a German passenger ship built in 1928 that held the record for fastest Atlantic crossing of her class of vessel until 1935. During World War 2 it was used as a barrack ship until a fire destroyed it. The fire was the result of mutiny.

He was the only Jewish alderman in Warsaw at that time. Narrative: According to the donor, Yitzchak emigrated to Palestine in 1938; he was smuggled out by Zionists. His grandfather was a Rabbi. All of his children were involved in political movements and one daughter was a Communist.
