OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, April 27, 1935, section 2 A. Fine, Shoe Dealer, Passes At His Home Friends throughout the province will learn with regret of the death of A. Fine, which occurred early this morning at his residence, 231 Union Street. Well known for many years as a shoe merchant, Mr. Fine, who was about 60 years old, maintained his place of business of Union Street near his home. He was a member of Benjamin Lodge, No. 39, F. and A.M., of Andover, where he resided in his earlier years. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Edith Fine, at home, and a brother Charles Fine of New York. Mr. Fine’s brother was called to Saint John some days ago when his illness became severe. Among other old friends of Mr. Fine who were present when death came were J. Brody, Woodstock and H. Kovan, Grand Falls. The funeral service will be held at his residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. A. Babb officiating. Complete arrangements have not been made. Evening Times Globe Monday, April 29, 1935, page 13 A large number of business, fraternal and personal friends attended the funeral of A. Fine from his late residence, 231 Union Street, yesterday afternoon. Members of the Masonic Order in the city held a service at the house. They marched to Haymarket Square, providing a guard of honour. Many walks of life were represented at the funeral, including members of Ezra Lodge of Habonim and the Jewish congregation. The two local rabbis, Rev. M. Beshkin and Rev. A. Babb, officiated, the former at the house and the latter at the grave in Fernhill Cemetery, where interment took place. Friends of the family were pallbearers. Among relatives present from outside the city were a brother, Charles Fine of Brooklyn, N.Y., H. Kovan, Grand Falls and J. Brody, Woodstock. There was a profusion of floral offerings, including No. 39 F. and A.M., of which Mr. Fine was a member. Out of town business associates also sent floral pieces. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.264. Memorial plaque in synagogue: Nathan and Mary Meltzer - E1.
