OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, September 22, 1952, Page 10, 11 Morris Rapaport Dies in Hospital [photo] Stricken on Friday as he was about to leave his home for the Synagogue of Shaarei Zedek to participate in the observance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, Morris Rapaport, well known Fredericton merchant, died at the General Hospital on Saturday evening. He was in his 80th year. Mr. Rapaport was born in Poland, and was a son of the late Nathan and Esther (Zelda) Rapaport. He had been a resident of the province for the last 40 years. For the last seven years he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Sidney Koven, 293 King Street, West Saint John. Since coming to New Brunswick, Mr. Rapaport had been engaged in the fur, cattle and lumber business and made his home in Fredericton where he took an active part in community affairs. He was largely responsible for the erection of the Fredericton Synagogue and was the donor of two scrolls used in the church [sic]. In addition, Mr. Rapaport gave generously to other Jewish institutions including a donation of a scroll to a synagogue in Czechoslovakia after its destruction during the Second World War. Possessed of a charitable nature, he will be remembered for his kindness and consideration to many during his residence in the province. His wife and a daughter Anna died some years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Koven, West Saint John and Mrs. Louis Weinstein, Bangor, Me., one brother Louis Rapaport, Bangor; two sisters, Mrs L. Schwartz, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Mrs. Ida Shur, Bangor, as well as seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the residence of Mrs. Koven, 293 King Street West, from where the funeral will be held this afternoon with service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. At the Saint John General Hospital on Sept.20, 1952, Morris Rapaport, of 293 King Street, West Saint John, son of the late Nathan and Esther (Zelda) Rapaport, leaving two daughters, one brother, two sisters, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Resting at the residence from the funeral will be held Monday afternoon with service at 2:30 p.m. Internment in Sharei Zedek Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.82.
