- OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, March 9, 1957, Page 22 Ronald S. Hart Dies in Cleveland Word was received here yesterday of the death of Ronald S. Hart, former Saint John and Halifax newspaperman and businessman in Cleveland, Ohio. He was 50. He was receiving treatment for a kidney ailment when he died. Mr. Hart was a native of Saint John, the son of Mrs. Harriet Hart and the late Abraham Hart. He was educated in city schools. His first newspaper job was with The Telegraph Journal. Later he moved to New Bedford, Mass. then to Halifax. He joined the staff of the old Halifax Herald in 1925 and served as reporter, provincial editor and city editor. He later operated the Capital Shoe Repair Shop in Halifax for some years. He left Halifax eight and a half years ago to go into business with his brother in Chicago. An ardent radio ham, Mr. Hart was known across the continent by his call letters VE1M2. He was also active in Jewish community affairs and was at one time publisher of the YMHA newspaper which he founded in Halifax. He was past mater of Keith N. 17 Masonic Lodge there. Surviving are his widow, the former Sara Jacobson of Saint John, his mother, a son Atlee, a daughter Joan and one brother Wilbur, all of Chicago. One grandchild also survives. The body of Mr. Hart will arrive here from Cleveland by rail Monday morning. Funeral service will take place in the chapel of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue on Carleton Street. Officiating will be Rabbi Dr. Emmanuel Bennett assisted by Rev. E. Slotki. Burial will be in the Green Hart family cemetery here. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.497 / JM 998.61.498.
