OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, February 10, 2003 The death of Mildred (Millie) Ruth (Bassen) Guss of University Ave, wife of the late Judge Benjamin Guss Q.C. occurred on February 9, 2003 at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in St. George, NB she was the daughter of the late T. Davis and Carrie (Sandler) Bassen. Mildred had received her Bachelor of Arts form McGill University and played a major role in supporting the arts in Saint John with her husband. Millie is survived by three daughters: Keren (Richard) Oberfield of Newton, Massachusetts, Judy (Eric) Teicholz of Lexington, Massachusetts, and Faith Guss of Oslo, Norway, one son Jonathan Guss of Toronto, one brother Dr. Frank Bassen of Manhattan, NY, one bother-in-law, Max Fransblow of Saint John, two sister-in-laws Lupe Bassen of Manhattan, NY, Rose Guss of Saint John, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Dr. E.J. Bassen and one sister, Florence (Numi) Segal. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. Internment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Remerberances may be made to the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 2003.56.26.
