OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 22, 2006 Fransblow, Max - Peacefully, in St. Catharine's, ON, on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Ida (Guss). Dearly loved father of Jerome of Abbotsford, British Colombia, June Mary Fransblow and Michael Karenberg of Kingston, ON and Marlene and her husband Howard Slepkov of St. Catharine's, ON. Cherished and much admired grandfather of Rebecca and Noah Slepkov. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and their families. He is survived by his sister, Kay Cohen (the late Nathan) of Moncton and his sisters-in-law Sylvia Fransblow of Fredericton, Bernice Fransblow of Vancouver, British Colombia and Rose Guss (the late William) of Saint John. He is predeceased by his brothers, Edward (Rose), Louis, Harry, Hyman, William, his twin brother Joseph, his sister Bernetta Guss (Abe) and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ben and Millie Guss, Jack and Jean Guss and Joseph Guss. Max was the proprietor of Fransblow Grocery in Saint John for many years. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Tuesday, August 30, 1948, page 6 Death Is Shock To Many Friends The sudden passing of Mrs. Rose Koven, wife of Morris Koven, Coldbrook, will be a shock to her many friends. Mrs. Koven died this morning in the Saint John General Hospital after suffering a heart attack. She had been in apparently good health on Monday and had carried out her household duties as usual. Mrs. Koven was born in Russia, a daughter of Mrs. Sarah and the late Samuel Goler. She had lived in Saint John for the last 26 years and was an active member of the Hebrew congregation as well as a popular member of the community. Surviving besides her husband, a well-known merchant, are two daughters Mrs. Phil Kaplan, Newark, N.J., and Miss Ann, at home; two sons, Joseph and Samuel, Saint John; her mother in Newark N.J., one sister, Mrs. Lena Kominsky, New York, and two brothers, Samuel and Isadore, Jersey City, N.J. The body is resting at Chamberlains Funeral Home, 145 King Street East, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday with service at 2:30 o’clock. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, August 12, 1946, SB100, p. 158 Joseph L. Goldman Passes Suddenly Succumbing to a sudden heart attack, Joseph Louis Goldman, well known dry goods merchant, died at his home, 26 Wall Street, yesterday and deep sympathy has been extended to those bereaved. Mr. Goldman was 72 years of age and was born in Minsk, Russia. He came to Canada about fifty years ago and after a brief period when he made his home in Salisbury, N.B., he came to Saint John and had been successfully engaging in merchandising here since then. He took an active part in the affairs of the Hebrew Congregation and had membership in the Masonic Order. Besides his wife, Mrs. Minnie Goldman, who had taken a prominent part in the work of the women’s organizations in the city, Mr. Goldman is survived by two sons, A. Percy and Sanford, of Saint John; two daughters, Mrs. Ben Attis, Moncton and Mrs. Hart Isaacs of this city; three grandsons, one granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. S. Rabkin, Saint John, Mrs. A. Abramsky, Saskatchewan, and Mrs. M. Goldman, Montreal, and one half brother, Edgar Winner, Brookline, Mass. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East. Interment will be in the Hebrew Cemetery at Fernhill. Boyaner Dies at age of 73: Widow of former city Optometrist Passes at Home Here Mrs. Kate (Poyas) Boyaner, 73, widow of Don Boyaner, remembered by many older citizens as an optometrist in Saint John, who died over 32 years ago, passed away at her home, 53 Elliot Row, early Saturday evening after a long period of declining health. The surviving members of the immediate family are two daughters and four sons, Mrs. S. Goldfeather of this city is a sister. There are six grandchildren also. Mrs. Boyaner’s body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, King Street, East, where services will take place 2:30 o’clock this afternoon, when Rev. M. I. Beshkin and Rev. A. Babb of the local synagogue will officiate. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Mrs. Boyaner had lived in this city for more than 50 years. She was a native of Warsaw, Poland. With her sister, Mrs. Goldfeather, and her late brother, Abram Poyas, watchmaker and jeweler in Saint John for over 40 years and latterly of New York, she came to Canada in her youth. She was married to Mr. Boyaner in Montreal and soon after took up residence here. Church worker A founder member of the Daughters of Israel Organization in this city, Mrs. Boyaner maintained a keen interest in the affairs of her church congregation until her illness. Charitable and hospitable, she endeared herself to a large number. She was for years a member of the Hospital Aid. The surviving daughters are Frances, wife of I. A. C. Norman Smith of the RCAF, and Bertha, wife of Lieut. Maurice Elman, with the Canadian dental corps at Winnipeg. The sons are Louis and Eli Boyaner, optometrists, this city; Harry I., Vancouver, who visited his mother during this last summer, and Captain Frank Boyaner, attached to the Canadian Forces Overseas. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, April 3, 1941 Kunitzky – In this city on April 3, 1941 after a lingering illness, Fanny Kunitzky, of 10 Wentworth Street widow of Aaron Kunitzky, leaving to mourn two daughters, four sons and several grandchildren. Funeral from Chamberlain’s Funeral Parlours this Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Interment in Hebrew plot in Fernhill cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Thursday, April 3, 1941 Mrs. Fanny Kunitzky Passed Away Today Many friends of Fanny Kunitzky, 10 Wentworth Street, will regret to learn of her death which occurred early this morning. The widow of Aaron Kunitzky, she was a daughter of the late Morris and Doris Liacouitsky of Poland. Mrs. Kunitzky who was highly esteemed member of the Hebrew congregation here, was born in Poland but had resided in this city for the last 19 years. In past years she was very active in all matters pertaining to the synagogue work. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. S. Cohen of this city, and Mrs. A. Baschel, New York; 4 sons, David and Benjamin of this city, and Samuel and Abraham, Montreal, and several grandchildren. The funeral was held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from Chamberlain’s Funeral Parlours, 145 King Street East where the service was conducted by Rabbi M. Beshkin and Rev. A. Babb. Interment was made in the Hebrew plot at Fernhill cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.202.
