Baig, widow of Harry Baig, leaving two sons, four daughters, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral from 137 paradise Row at 4 p.m. this afternoon. Interment at Fernhill Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, September 22, 1937 The funeral of Mrs. Sarah R. Baig was held yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Jacobson, 137 Paradise Row. Due to the fact that this is a holy week of the Jewish people, special services were rendered by Rabbi Beshkin and Babb. Interment was made in the Jewish section of Fernhill Cemetery. Mr. Baxt, who was in his 90th year, was born in Malitopol, Russia, and came to Saint John in September, 1940. He had resided here ever since that time. His wife died on June 8th 1959. Surviving are two sons, Jack J. Baxt, Lancaster and Harry Baxt, Toronto Ont.; One daughter, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Mass, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2'oclock. Internment was at Fernhill Cemetery. Boyaner, optician in Dock street, died very suddenly at his home in High street yesterday morning. He had been confined to his home for the last two or three days with a sore foot, but was apparently in the best of health. Yesterday morning about 11 o’clock he was taken ill suddenly and died a few moments afterwards. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Israel H. and Louis, both of whom are in business with their father. The deceased had carried on his business in Dock street for several years and was one of the many respected Jewish residents of the city. The funeral will take place this afternoon from his late home in High Street. Interment will be in Fernhill cemetery and there will be services at the grave. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, January 8, 1992 Jack Calp dead at 80 Jack Calp (Jacob Ben Marcus), well-known Saint John businessman considered an authority in the Canadian clothing industry, died at the Saint John Regional Hospital Tuesday after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Odessa, Ukraine, son of the late Marcus and Sarah (Zelkin) Calp. The family's land and specialty clothing business was confiscated during the Bolshevik revolution but the family escaped with their lives and emigrated to Canada when Jack Calp was 14, arriving in December, 1926. Jack Calp worked as an operator in a clothing factory in Saint John. He was also a 'newsie' with the Canadian Pacific Railway, traveling between Saint John and Montreal. With brother Abe, Jack Calp entered into business, launching Calp's Ltd. In 1948, Jack and his wife Teresa (Ross) opened a high quality men's specialty store. He was consulted on many occasions on men's fashion trends by Canada's top suit manufacturers. The store continues to flourish today under the ownership of their son, Norman. Jack Calp was a member of the Shaarei Zedek congregation, the Canadian Zionist organization, the Saint John Shomar Club and the Masonic Order Saint John Lodge 2. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; two sons, Mark of Saint John and Norman and his wife Bonnie of Renforth; his brother, Abe of Saint John; grandchildren Shannah and David of Edmonton, Alta. and Keiver and Keri of Renforth; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Celia, died earlier. The funeral will be held on Thursday with service at 3:30 p.m. at Castle Funeral Home, (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street. - OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, September 3, 1996 On September 2, 1996, Mrs. T. (Tessie) Calp, 83 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. The daughter of the late John and Rachel Ross, she was born in, and remained a life long resident of Saint John. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1992, a sister Ethel Sharpe, and two brothers, Harry and Max Ross. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Mark (Susan) and Norman (Bonnie), four grandchildren, Shannah, David, Keiver, and Keri, a sister Mrs. Aida Fritz (Kentville), brother in law Mr. Abe Calp, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and Casey. Mrs. Calp was a graduate of Saint John High School and Modern Business College. Following her marriage, she became a working partner with her husband Jack in the establishment of the family business, Jack Calp Ltd. Men’s Wear, for 42 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a life long member of Shaarei Zedek Congregation and a life long member of Henrietta Szold chapter of Hadassah WIZO, a member of Sisterhood Shaari Zedek Synagogue, and of Saint John Regional Hospital auxiliary, and an active member of the Saint John Chevra Kadisha Society. The funeral will be held from Castle Funeral Home, (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, with interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, Westmorland Road. Shiva will be held at 46 Fifth Street, Saint John. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the surgical floor and palliative care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Special thanks to her private care nurses. A person with an immense passion for life and respect for others, Tessie Calp will be sadly missed and always remembered with love. Her whole purpose in life was giving to others, and she fulfilled that purpose very well, and continued to give until to the very last day of her life. Cooking and baking, needlepoint, and making afghans were just some of the many ways that Mrs. Calp gave of herself, as her immediate thoughts were always for others. She was a generous and caring individual with her family as well as others, who came to think of her as their second mother. Mr. Cohen, who resided at 82 Summer Street, was a long time supporter of the Conservative Party and at one time was Chairman of Dufferin Ward. He was a director of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue and founder of the Zionist Men’s Association. At the time of his death, he was prominent in real estate both in Saint John and in Moncton.
