OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, May 18, 1987 The death of Mrs. Nellie Hoffman of 100 Leinster Street, widow of Myer Hoffman, occurred on Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Esther (Goldschlager) Stern and had lived the greater part of her life in Saint John. She was a member of the Women’s Symphony Orchestra of Saint John, the Congregation of Shaarei Zedek and of the Sisterhood-Hadassah. She is survived by three daughters, Bernice, Mrs. Marvin Shapiro of Kensington, Calif., Phyllis, Mrs. Morton Civen of Seal Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Louise Milota of Saint John; six grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, and several nephews and nieces. The body is resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of donor’s choice. There will be no visiting at the funeral home. Members of the Chevra Kadisha serves as pallbearers. Donations were made to the New Brunswick Heart Foundation, including those from Harold Peer Ltd. and from the Saint John Women’s Symphony Committee; Canadian Cancer Society and for the Senator Emerson Foundation.
