OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, May 31, 1989 Flam - By accident on May 29, 1989, at Chatham, Miss Annie Flam, of Upper Water Street, Chatham; survived by nieces an nephews. Resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Mounties say little about Chatham fire Chatham - RCMP are saying little about a fire Monday that took the life of a 75 year old Chatham women. Dr. John S. MacKay was to perform an autopsy at the Saint John Regional Hospital this morning on the body of Annie C. Flam. The RCMP said she died early Monday when a robber set fire to her house on Upper Water Street, Chatham, to cover a break-in. Flam’s sister-in-law, 61 year old Nina Flam, is still in the Dr. Everett Hospital, Fredericton, suffering from severe burns. She lived in another apartment at the same 242-244 Water Street address. RCMP officers continued to sift through the ashes at the burned-out shell of the building yesterday. Officers said there will not likely be another formal statement until Friday morning, although this could change if something develops. Early last evening, an officer denied a radio report that the RCMP removed escaped convict Allan Legere from the list of suspects. A jury convicted Legere of second-degree murder in the June 21, 1986, death of a shopkeeper at Black River Bridge, near Loggieville. He was serving a life sentence at the maximum-security Atlantic Institution at Renous but escaped on May 3 during a trip to a Moncton Hospital to see an ear specialist. The officer also refused to comment on a radio report that the RCMP have a description of the accused, which differs from Legere’s description. RCMP are saying little about the case. They kept a section of Upper Water Street in front of the Flam residence cordoned off yesterday, as officers went in and out of the building. The Chatham fire Department set up a portable generator to provide light inside. Annie Flam’s apartment is located on top of the grocery store she operated for many years. Nina Flam lived in the two-storey apartment next door in the same building. Nearby residents were still upset over the apparent murder yesterday, with some taking measures like bracing chairs against their doors at night. Flam, Annie C. Evening Times Globe Thursday, June 8, 1989 Funeral The funeral of Annie Flam, of Upper Water Street, Chatham, was held from the Castle Funeral Home, Hillsley, 91 Leinster Street, with Lou Michelson of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek, officiating. Members of the Chevra Kadisha were pallbearers. Donations were made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation. Interment took place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery with gravestone prayers by Mr. Michelson. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.13. Memorial plaque in synagogue: Samuel Meltzer - A3.
