- 2 pages, double-sided. Heavily creased from folds. Both pages have separated horizontally along the center crease, stored in 4 pieces. Document is the last letter Toby Geller Applebaum (Wagner) received from her eldest sister Soorcia. She writes that times are very bad for all the Jews in the village and that she and other family members need money. Narrative: Toby Geller Applebaum (Wagner), b. 1907, d. 2000, was the mother of the donor, Joe Applebaum. She immigrated to Lancaster, Ontario from Poland in 1932. Her parents, Sholom and Faiga Wagner, as well as her siblings Yoina, Meyer, Douga, Pinceh, Avrum, Soorcia and Blima remained in Poland. All her siblings perished in the Holocaust. Joe's father, Bernard (Berish) Applebaum immigrated to Lancaster in 1926. His siblings Leib, Aaron, Haim, Hersh and Leah all perished as well. Bernard's parents were Melech and Sprinca Applebaum; Melech was a fur trader.
