OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, December 23, 1948, Page 5 Mrs. E. Marcus Dies in Hospital, Passes after Illness of Several Years; Funeral Tomorrow Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Ethel Marcus, 85, widow of Joseph Marcus, which occurred early this morning at the General Hospital, after an illness of several years. Mrs. Marcus was born in Russia and came to Canada when she was 27. She resided in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, for a number of years and came to Saint John 51 years ago. Mrs. Marcus was the honorary president of the Daughters of Israel Society. Surviving are four sons, J. D. Marcus, Max Marcus, and H. L. Marcus, all of this city; Dr. Joseph Marcus, Los Angeles, California, and one daughter, Miss Betty Marcus, of Saint John, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday morning at 11 o’clock from her residence, 42 Carmarthen Street, with interment at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, Fernhill. The Evening Times Globe Thursday, December 23, 1948 MARCUS – At the Saint John General Hospital on December 23, 1948, Mrs. Ethel Marcus of 42 Carmarthen Street, widow of Joseph Marcus, survived by one daughter, four sons, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one sister. Resting at her residence, 42 Carmarthen Street, from where the funeral will be held on Friday morning at 11 o’clock. Internment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Saint John Globe, February 10, 1911 The sudden death of Mr. Joseph Marcus took place at the General Hospital at an early hour this morning. Mr. Marcus was a well-known businessman. For several years he kept a furniture store on Dock Street. Mr. Marcus was in the forty-seventh year of his age and survived by his wife, five children, and two brothers. His brothers are Mr. S. L. Marcus, of this city, and Rev. I. Marcus, residing in the States. His children are Jacob, Max, Hyman and Bessie, of this city, and Joseph, who has been studying medicine in Philadelphia. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 5, 1988 Jennie Jacobson of 55 Magazine Street, widow of Myer Jacobson, died Friday at her residence. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Lazer and Chia (Jacobson) Bloom. She was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek, a member of the Sisterhood and a member of the Hadassah-WIZO Organization and she was a member of the Westfield Golf Country Club. She is survived by one daughter, Gloria, Mrs. Stephen Pink, of Halifax, two brothers, Joseph Bloom of Detroit, Bernard Bloom of Saint John; one sister, Betty Fineberg of Halifax, two grandchildren, Michael and Cindy, both of Toronto. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hadassah-WIZO by phoning Mrs. A. Guss at 652-3491 or to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
