- Yellow rectangular plaque with decorative border running on all sides; at top centre of border is a small portrait of Theodor Herzl with an Israeli flag on either side. On right border is an image of a man holding a pickaxe, standing in a field. On left border is an image of an angel supporting a collapsing figure. At bottom is a harbor scene, with 2 boats in a body of water, framed by modern buildings and trees. Plaque is engraved with the Hebrew text of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. Under text, the 37 signatures of the Provisional State Council are engraved. Narrative: The original owner was a Mr. Openheim, a friend of the donor. Mr. Openheim was born in Russia and survived the war in China. He emigrated to Israel in 1948, and received this plaque as thanks for his financial support for the founding of the state.
