OBITUARIES: Saint John Globe, July 31, 1925, Page 3 Recent Deaths Isaac Levine Aged 61 years, Isaac Levine, 18 Chapel Street died at the Public Hospital, Thursday, while undergoing an operation. He is survived by his wife and two sone, Abraham Louis, formerly employed in Saint John post office as clerk, who was transferred to a clerkship in the Montreal post office 16 months ago and Bernard Daniel Levine, Saint John. Four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Levine, of this city, Mrs. Fanny Fink, Montreal, Mrs. Rebecca Kirkland and Mrs. Helen Dem, both of Manchester, Eng., also survive. The funeral took place this afternoon with interment at Hebrew Cemetery in Fernhill. Service conducted by Rabbi Blitz assisted by Cantor Mendleblatt. A. Babb gave a brief eulogy. Telegraph Journal Friday, July 31, 1925, page 5 Isaac Levine Has Passed Away Isaac Levine of 18 Chapel Street died while undergoing an operation at the General Public Hospital Thursday morning. He was 61 years of age and for the last 29 or 30 years had lived in Saint john, residing in the north end of the city. He was loved and respected by all who knew and his sudden death will be heard of with much regret. He was a prominent and life long member of the I.O.F. Mr. Levine is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Rebecca Levine, two sons and two grandchildren. The sons are Abraham Louis Levine, formerly employed in Saint John post office as clerk, who was transferred to a clerkship in Montreal post office 16 months ago and Bernard Daniel Levine of this city. The grandchildren are daughters of Abraham Levine and are Dorothy Rachael and Constance Frances. Four sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Ethel Levine of this city, Mrs. Fanny Fink of Montreal and Mrs. Rebecca Kirkland and mrs. Helen Dem, both of Manchester, England. The funeral will take place today after the arrival of his son from Montreal. Burial will be in the Hebrew Cemetery at Fernhill. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.176. Additional notes: peddlar

OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, May 24, 1995 ELMAN – At the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home on May 23, 1995, Mrs. Bertha (Boyaner) Elman of Horsler Drive, Saint John West, wife of the late Maurice Elman. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Don and Kate(Poyas) Boyaner. Mrs. Elman was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek Sisterhood, and of the Henrietta Szold Chapter Hadassah WIZO. She was an active bridge player as well as being involved in theatricals. In her earlier years she was a Girl Guide leader as well as the Young Judean gymnastics team. She is survived by one son, Dan Elman and his wife of Anne of Saint John West, one daughter, Eleanor Givner and her husband, Dr. Morris Givner of Halifax, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Funeral service will be held at 'Hillsley' Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (634-1700) on Thursday May 25, 1995 at 3:30 p.m. Interment at the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Funeral on Thursday afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2:30 o’clock. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, May 21, 1958, page 26 Harry Slovitt Dies At Residence Stricken with a seizure, harry Slovitt, well-known local salesman, died Tuesday evening at his residence, 138 Metcalf Street. He was 50 years of age. He was born in Saint John, the son of Benjamin Slovitt, 92 Princess Street and the late Mrs. Bluma (Brinder) Slovitt. He had been a resident of this city all his life. Mr. Slovitt had been employed with Holtzman’s Ltd., Waterloo Street. He was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Patricia Lachle; four sons Pte. Charles Slovitt, serving with Canadian Army at London, Ont., Robert, Daniel and Bruce Slovitt all at home; his father; one brother Louis Slovitt, Saint John; four sisters, Mrs. Morris Donovan and Miss Fanny Slovitt, Saint John; the Misses Lena and Esther Slovitt, Montreal, Quebec; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from the vestry of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2:30 o’clock. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery.
