OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, July 17, 1942, SB 95, page 156 Mrs. Nathan Meltzer Dies Early Today Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Meltzer, wife of Nathan Meltzer, 101 Paradise Row, which occurred in the General Hospital early this morning after an illness of several months. Mrs. Meltzer was born in Lithuania, a daughter of the late Charles and Helen Hains, but has resided in Saint John for over 30 years where she enjoyed the friendship of a wide circle. She was particularly well known through her interests in the Newfield Millinary Store, and was a devout member of the Hebrew congregation as well as being active in many Hebrew Societies. Mrs. Meltzer held membership in the Daughters of Israel, the Senior Hadassah Society and the Sisterhood of the Congregation of the Shaarei Zedek. She was also a member of the Local Council of Women and of the Red Cross Society. She is survived by her husband, Nathan Meltzer; two daughters, Mrs.Samuel Goldstein, Montreal, and Miss Diana Meltzer, at home; three sons, A. I. Meltzer, Worchester, Mass., William and Mendel of Saint John; one sister, Mrs. Morris Guss, Saint John; two brothers, Rev. A. M. A. Hains, Waterville, Me., and H.Hains, Moncton. The funeral will be held today from her residence at 4:30 p.m. and interment will be made in the Hebrew Plot in Fernhill Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rabbi M. Beshkin and Rev A. Babb. Resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street. Funeral Monday at 11 a.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Telegraph Journal Monday, May 21, 1990 The death of William (Bill) Meltzer, 25 Golding Street, occurred at his residence on Saturday after a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Nathan and Mary (Haines) Meltzer. He lived all his life in Saint John. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick Law School, and had a law practice in Saint John. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and was on the New Brunswick Film Classification Board. He was a past owner of Welsford Golf Club and a member of the Carleton Curling Club. He was a member of Congregation Shaarei Zedek. He is survived by his companion, Ruth Loeman; two brothers, A.I. Meltzer of Worcester, Mass., and Mendel of Winnipeg; two sisters, Lillian Goldstein of Saint John and Diana Abramsky, Kingston,Ont; several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street. Funeral today at 11 a.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. UNB Alumni News 1990 Class of 1946 Meltzer, Wiliam (Bill) (BCL) of Saint John died May 20 after a lengthy illness. He lived all his life in Saint John and had a law practice there. He was on the N.B. Film Classification Board and was a past owner of the Welsford Golf Club. Mr. Meltzer was a member of the Carleton Curling Club and the Lions Club. Murray Zides of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek officiated. The eulogy was delivered by David Lubin. Members of the Chevra Kadisha were pallbearers. Donations were made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery with graveside prayers by Mr. ZIdes.
