OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, April 17, 1989 William (Bill) Meltzer of 557 Sand Cove Road, Saint John West, husband of Doreen (Whipple) Meltzer died Sunday at the Saint John General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Samuel and Alice (Dritz) Meltzer and had been a life long resident of this city. Mr. Meltzer owned and operated Bill’s Tobacco Store on Union Street and Prince Edward Street. He served overseas during the Second World War. He was a member of the Shaarei Zedek Congregation. He was predeceased by one brother, Edward. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann, Mrs. David Morgan of Saint John; two brothers, Gar of Saint John and Murray of Montreal; five sisters, Lillian. Mrs. Sydney Schoen of Florida, Kay, Mrs. Barnett Colton of Virginia Beach, Frances, Mrs. Micha Geltman of Montreal, Ann, Mrs. Jack Levine of Saint John and Mary, Mrs. Walter Nachum of Florida; three granddaughters; several nephews, nieces and cousins. The body is resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held Tuesday with service at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home are from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hadassah WIZO by phoning Mrs. A. Guss at 62-3491, would be appreciated by the family. The Evening Times Globe Friday, April 21, 1989 Funerals The funeral of William Meltzer, husband of Doreen (Whipple) Meltzer of 557 Sand Cove Road, was held from Castle Funeral Home, Hillsley Chapel, 91 Leinster Street with Mr. Lou Michelson of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek, officiating. Members of the Chevra Kadisha served as pallbearers. Donations were received for the Hadassah WIZO Organization of Canada; Canadian Cancer Society, including those from Management and staff of CFBC C98 FM, Saint John Press Club, N.B. Classification Staff Board Members and from Carleton Business Club; Heart Foundation; Gideon Memorial Bibles; and for the Canadian Diabetes Association. Interment took place in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery with graveside prayers by Mr. Michelson. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.370. Memorial plaque in synagogue: Samuel Meltzer - A1.
