- OBITUARIES: Saint John Telegraph Journal, December 20, 2002 Following a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis, the death of Mr. Eliezer Arrditti, of Saint John, occurred on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Eliezer is the son of Dr. Joseph and Renee (Menda) Arditti. Eliezer was a Saint John High Graduate. He studied the film industry and painting extensively at UCLA, from where he graduated. He enjoyed painting. Eliezer is survived by his parents, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his sister, Perla Aditti. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2002 at 12:00 Noon form Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506) 634-7424. Interment will take place at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Jewish Historical Museum or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, would be appreciated. - OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 8, 1997 The death of Perla Arditti of Toronto, formerly of Saint John, occurred at her home on Thursday, November 6, 1997. Daughter of Dr. Joseph and Renee Arditti of Saint John. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1959. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Eliezer Arditti of Saint John, an aunt, Esther Menda Assalian of Montreal and relatives in Israel and Turkey. She received her early education in Saint John and graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a degree in Psychology. In 1980 she relocated to Toronto where she became involved in counselling in the 'Youth in Trouble Program' designed to help young people experiencing difficulty coping in society. She later entered the real estate field and when illness curtailed her mobility she became a mortgage broker. She later became Youth Director at the Adat Israel Synagogue and at the time of her death was organizing and working with Multiple Sclerosis support group. She will be returned to Saint John with funeral services to be held on Monday, November 10, 1997 at the Ocean View Funeral Home 'Hillsley Chapel', 91 Leinster Street (634-1712) with service at 2 p.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Jewish Historical Museum of Saint John. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.485. - 263 pages, hardcover book with blue cover. Dust jacket is dark yellow with green and white writing. On the dust jacket cover is a sketched image of a woman lying in bed looking at six young boys at the foot of her bed. Image of the author on inside flap of dust jacket. Narrative: Donor is Eva Basch, the daughter of Eliezer Basch and Blanka Wiener. Eliezer and Blanka were engaged and escaped together in 1940 to the USSR where they were arrested as political opponents and separated. Eliezer was sent to Siberia (he was liberated in 1948), Blanka was sent to Kazakhstan (liberated 1947). They reunited in Budapest in 1948 where one of Eliezer’s brothers still lived.They later went to DP camp in Münich where they got new ID papers (changed birth dates and official location of wedding). Eliezer and Blanka Immigrated to Canada via Halifax in 1950. They stayed in Montreal for a short time (Eliezer had a sister there), then moved to Kingston where Eliezer’s brother had a store and lived in Napanee until 1953. In 1953, they moved back to Montreal where Eva could have access to Jewish education. Blanka was a waitress and Eliezer worked different jobs including in an insurance company. Eliezer was the Executive Director of the Labour Zionist organization. They bought a yarn store on St. Laurent bvd, called “Magasin de fibres L.B” (now La Bobineuse on Mont-Royal East) which they managed until they retired.
