- OBITUARIES: Saint John Times Globe, October 16, 1998 After a period of failing health, peacefully at home on October 15, 1998. Mrs. Isaacs was born in New York on April 19, 1907, the youngest child of Anna (Greenfield) and Elias Smith. The Smith family emigrated to Montreal, where Mrs. Isaacs grew up. After her father's death she moved to Saint John at the age of 16. Mrs. Isaacs was predeceased in 1970 by her beloved husbnand, A. Ralph Isaacs. The Isaacs' owned the American Clothing House, a men's clothing store at 9 Charlotte Street for many years, and Mrs. Isaacs worked in the office of the store. Throughout her long life, Mrs. Isaacs was an active particpant in many cvivic organizations, including the Community Concert Organization, the Festival of Music, the Lionettes, the Business Women's Association. A lifelong member of Congregation Shaarei Zedek, she was devoted to Jewish life in Saint John, serving on the boards of most organizations. Her interest in Hadassah-WIZO led her to presidencies and board positions on a local, regional and national level. Family was most important to Mrs. Isaacs and she devoted much time to nurturing relationships and caring for her family. She leaves behind two daughter, Elise Weisbach (Jerry), of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Susan Isaacs-Lubin of Saint John. A third daughter, Elizabeth Ann Reeds died in November 1997 in Los Angeles, California. She also leaves grandchildren, Michael (Amy), David (Joan) and Deborah (Michael) Weisbach and Judy and Leonard Reeds, as well as three great-grandchildren, a niece, Leslie Isaacs Ram of Ottawa, and many great nices and nephews. For the past two years she made her home with Bonnie and Wayne MaClean, who cared for her with the same love and devotion they would have given their own mother, for which the family is truly grateful. Thanks also to Sue Sangster and Carla Price from Extra Mural for their care in our Mother's final days. Resting at Ocean View Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (634-1712). Funeral Service will be held at 'Hillsley Chapel' on Friday, October 16, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum at 633-1833 or charity of the donor's choice. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 2000.69.21.
