Approximately 100 pages. hardcover, cardboard bound with fabric spine; cover and spine are black; flyleafs are dark brown. First page is pink with black text; remaining interior pages are beige with black text. Page edges are mottled pink and beige. Narrative: The prayer book was found hidden in the wooden beams of the roof of a Jewish home in Poland. An uncle of the donor, Elizabeth Cicigoi, purchased the house after the war and discovered it. It had been hidden with a transit pass, a photograph, a letter, and another prayer book. Elizabeth's mother was Jewish; she was murdered during the Holocaust.

1 page, double-sided, within a metal frame. Frame extends around edges on verso, on recto it cuts across top edge, leaving 1.5 cm of paper above metal. Two holes punched in horizontal orientation in section above frame. Within frame, square b&w photo of passholder affixed to bottom half of recto by two metal grommets. Numbered 51276 at top of recto, with name of passholder handwritten underneath. Signature of director underneath. On verso, printed text in Polish indicating that document is a monthly tramway and bus pass, valid for October 1938. Number 51276 handwritten. Number 4325 printed on left side. Object is a monthly tramway and bus pass for Warsaw, Poland, issued to Chaim Reisberg. Narrative: The transit pass was found hidden in the wooden beams of the roof of a Jewish home in Poland. An uncle of the donor, Elizabeth Cicigoi, purchased the house after the war and discovered it. It had been hidden with a photograph, a letter, and two Jewish prayer books. Elizabeth's mother was Jewish; she was murdered during the Holocaust.

OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, February 3, 1988, Page 28 Bessie Cohen of the Carlton Kirk Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of 82 Summer Street, Saint John, wife of the late Myer Cohen, died on Wednesday at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in the Soviet Union, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth Levine. She lived most of her life in Saint John. She was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. She was a lifelong member of the Hadassah-WIZO Organization and sisterhood. She is survived by one daughter, Jennie, Mrs. Ben Cohen of Saint John, two sons, Edgar and Israel, both of Saint John, two brothers, Simon and Nathan Levine, both of Saint John, one sister, Lillian Kashetsky of Saint John, seven grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the heart fund or Hadassah-WIZO Organization would be appreciated by the family. Wire rimmed, oval frames. The nose piece is arched slightly at the middle; a small support is attached to each side, just below the nose piece. The arms (see condition) are stiff metal for the first part, with a stippled design on the top and bottom edge. The part that goes around the ears curves and is flexible. Thick, concave lenses are set into each frame hole. Narrative: Eyeglasses belonged to Therezia Spiegel who was killed in Auschwitz. She was the donor's sister. Donor took them with her on a death march from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen, 1944.

OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, July 5, 1952, Page 5 Ernest Gilbert, long associated with Duval’s Ltd., 15-17 Waterloo Street died at an early hour in the General Hospital on Saturday morning and his death will be learned with deep regret by a host of friends and business acquaintances. Mr. Gilbert had been in failing health for some time. He was 61 years of age. Mr. Gilbert was born in Montreal and was a son of the late Rachel and Harris (Aaronson) Gilbert. [He was a resident] of Saint John for about 50 years. He resided at 80 Princess Street and was an active member of the congregation Shaarei Zedek. A veteran of the first World War, Mr. Gilbert served overseas with the Royal Flying Corps. Upon his return he joined the staff of Duval’s and continued in his employ until his death. He was a member of the Saint John Branch No. 14, of the Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth McGinnis of Fredericton; two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Paikowsky and Miss Annie Gilbert of Saint John, as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held yesterday at noon from the residence. The service was conducted by Rev. P. H. Green and Rev. E. Slotki. Relatives and friends were pallbearers. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Among the profusion the floral tributes were from the Brantford Roofing (Maritimes) Ltd; Martin Senour Co. Ltd; Management and staff of Duval’s and officers and members of Canadian Legion. OBITUARIES: Weekly Telegraph, August 21, 1907 Gilbert – On 18th inst., at her residence, 68 Union Street, Rachel, wife of Harris Gilbert, age 47 years. – (Montreal papers please copy.) Mrs. Rachel Gilbert, wife of Harris Gilbert, 68 Union Street, died Sunday afternoon at the residence of her husband, aged 47 years. Deceased, who had been ill for the past nine months, came to this city five years ago with her husband from Montreal, to which city the family had moved from England twenty years previously. Besides her husband, Mrs. Gilbert is survived by three daughters – Annie, Narrie, and Betsy, at home. Mrs. Gilbert was well known in Montreal, where many will regret to learn of her death. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, September 16, 1975 Samuel Gilbert Dies At Home The death of Samuel Gilbert of Taylor Lake occurred at his residence on Monday. For many years, Mr. Gilbert was joint owner of a second-hand store on Dock Street. With his brother, Joseph he took over the store begun by his father, Harris Gilbert, in 1904. Following the death of his brother in 1949, he continued to operate alone and later moved to a new location on the same street. Following his retirement a few years ago, he was an avid fan of horse racing. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Harris and Rachel Gilbert. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday with service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will take place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery.
