OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, January 2, 1934 Mrs. M. Perchanok The death of Mrs. Esther C. Perchanok, at her residence, 668 Main Street yesterday, following a lengthy illness, dealt a sad blow to the Hebrew community of Saint John. A member of several Jewish organizations, she had always taken an active interest in their objects. Popular in a wide circle of friends she was held in high regards. Mrs. Perchanok, wife of Myer Perchanok, was a member of the Daughters of Israel, Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Congregation, and the Senior Hadassah. She was 79 years old. Surviving, besides her husband are two sons, Jacob Perchanok, clothing store proprietor in Saint John and Abraham Perchanok, of Montreal; also five grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. yesterday from her residence to the Jewish Plot in Fernhill Cemetery for interment. Rev. A. Babb officiated. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.266. Resting at Chandler’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday with service at 2 o’clock. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, July 21, 1954 Retired Business man Succumbs – Samuel Goldfeather Had Been Widely-Known Optometrist In City Ill for the last five weeks, Samuel Goldfeather, well-known retired optometrist, died this morning at the Whitehall Nursing Home, Grand Bay. He was 83 years of age. A resident of Saint John for more than 50 years, he was the founder of the firm of S. Goldfeather and Son, optometrists, and had taken a prominent part in the work of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek in the city. Born in Poland, he was a son of the late Isaac and Hinda (Mindel) Goldfeather. He came to Canada when a young man. For many years he was the proprietor of an optometrist shop on Dock Street and still later on Mill Street. In recent years his office had been located on North King Square. He resided at 89 Elliott Row. In 1898, he married the former Miss Esther Poyas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morton Poyas. The couple marked the golden anniversary of their marriage in 1948. Mrs. Goldfeather died in March, 1952. During his residence here, Mr. Goldfeather was a member of the Zionist Lodge of Habonim. He is one of the oldest members of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek, having been a member since its foundation. Mr. Goldfeather retired several years ago. He entered the Saint John General Hospital five weeks ago and for the last 10 days had been convalescing at the nursing home. Surviving are one son, Bernard Goldfeather Saint John, who was associated with his father in business, three daughters, Mrs. Mitchell Bernstein and Mrs. H. Cornblatt of Saint John and Mrs. S.B. Yampol, Chicago, Ill., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday with service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery.
