- Pilot Officer Harry Glass of Toronto, Ontario, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal on May 2, 1944, according to an Ottawa announcement. He received his award from His Majesty King George VI. The official citation with the Distinguished Flying Medal read; “This airman was the flight engineer of an aircraft detailed to attack Nuremberg one night in March 1944. During the operation, the aircraft was repeatedly attacked by fighters and sustained extensive damage. A fire commenced, but Sergeant Glass, by his gallant and determined efforts, succeeded in extinguishing the flames. Later, whilst over the North Sea on the homeward flight, the pilot was forced to bring the aircraft down on to the water. Two wounded members of the crew were in danger of losing their lives but were saved by Sergeant Glass, who also assisted other members of the crew into the dinghy. He proved a tower of strength in most distressing circumstances.” Pilot Officer Glass failed to return from a flight over Normandy on August 8, 1944. His body was later recovered and buried in England. The R.C.A.F. overseas publication “Wings Abroad” (May 10, 1944) reported the action. Pilot Officer Glass enlisted in the R.C.A.F. at Galt, Ontario, in January 1942. After proceeding overseas as an aero-mechanic he remustered to aircrew. His parents first heard that he was on flying operations against the enemy when the announcement of his award was made. He participated in many sorties over targets in Germany and occupied France with the City of Lethbridge “Bison” Squadron. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club, having been forced to bail out by parachute on one occasion. A Star of David is found on his tombstone. (Source: Veterans Affairs Canada web site)

- Flying Officer Harry Knobovitch was born in Pinsk, Poland, and lived in Montreal, Quebec. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on December 19, 1944. The citation read: "This officer participated in many sorties and has set a fine example of skill and devotion to duty. One night in October 1944, he piloted an aircraft detailed to attack Duisburg. Long before the target was reached one engine failed completely. Undeterred Flying Officer Knobovitch continued his mission and a good bombing attack was made. When crossing the coast of France on the return flight, the wireless apparatus caught fire. The aircraft quickly became filled with smoke. Displaying great coolness Flying Officer Knobovitch directed the efforts of two crew members in extinguishing the flames. This done, he cleared the smoke out of the aircraft by turning on the heater of the defective engine. He afterwards flew the damaged aircraft to base and effected a safe landing in difficult circumstances. This officer displayed great skill and determination and provided a most inspiring captain.” He was listed missing after operations and was presumed dead for official purposes on September 27, 1945 (R.C.A.F. Casualty List No. 1274).
