- OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, September 2, 1996 In Saint John, on August 31, predeceased by her beloved Jack. Survived by her devoted children, Ellis (Teri Leikin) and Sandra (Norman Slover) and loving grandchildren, Sara-Lynn, Micah, and Daniel Levine and Carla and David Slover, predeceased by sister, Lillian Schoen, brothers Edward and Bill Meltzer. Survived by sisters, Kay Colton, Frances Geltman, Mary Nachus and brothers Gar Meltzer and Murray Meltzer. Anne leaves to mourn a large extended family who will remember her lovingly. Shiva will be held at 200 Bedell Avenue, Saint John. Resting at the 'Hillsley' Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (634-1700) from where the funeral will be held from the Hillsley Chapel on Monday with service at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. - OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, December 20, 1955 Tobin – At the Saint John General Hospital on Dec. 19, 1955, Herbert B. Tobin of 239 King Street West, son of Joseph and Ida (Guss) Tobin. Survived by his wife, two sons, his parents, one brother, two sisters and nieces and nephews. Funeral this (Tuesday) afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2:30 o'clock. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Tuesday, December 20, 1955 Many friends have learned with regret of the death of Herbert B. Tobin which occurred last night at the General Hospital. Mr. Tobin was in his 31st year. A well known tobacconist, Mr. Tobin was a former president of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club and was active in many other organizations in Saint John and Lancaster. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. (see also pg. 15) (photograph included in original) … Tobin, Herbert B. The Evening Times Globe Tuesday, December 20, 1955, page 15 Herbert B. Tobin Dies in Hospital Death at the age of 30 of Herbert B. Tobin in Saint John last night caused widespread sorrow among his friends. Mr. Tobin, a well-known Union Street tobacconist, had been ill for only a short time before passing away at the General Hospital. A son of Joseph and Ida Tobin, he was born in this city, attended schools here and was a graduate of Saint John High School. He was a Gilwell Scout and represented the Judean Troop at the coronation of King George VI in London. At that time he remained in England with his paternal grandparents for a year, taking part of his schooling there. Shortly after his graduation from high school he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and saw service overseas during the Second World War. He was a former president of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club, a member of the Canadian Club, the Carleton Curling Club and the Congregation of Shaarei Zedek. He was also a member of the Philatelist Club. Of a charitable nature, Mr. Tobin had shown for many years' keen interest in music and other arts. He was a collector of rare books. He was also regarded as an extremely good photographer and prized a collection of fine pictures. Surviving besides his parents are his wife, Judith; two sons Mark Lee and Johnathan Robert; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Levine, Fredericton; and Miss Eleanor Tobin, Montreal; a brother, Sydney Tobin, Montreal; uncles and aunts residing in Great Britain and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with Rabbi E. Bennett and Rabbi E. Slotki officiating. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.119.
