- Sergeant Harry J. Bockner of Toronto, Ontario, was reported killed in action near Zutphen, Holland, on April 11, 1945, according to an official dispatch. A member of the Irish Regiment of Canada, he was transferred to the 30th Anti-Aircraft Battery when it was organized. After training on the west coast of Canada, he went overseas and was attached to an anti-aircraft unit. In the fall of 1943, he volunteered as an observer with the 1st Canadian Division in Italy. There he was attached to the 54th Light Anti-Aircraft battery and fought the entire Italian campaign until the 1st Division was transferred to the western front. He was born in Guelph, Ontario.

- Warrant Officer (Class II) Samuel Donen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was officially reported killed on active service overseas on September 7, 1943. Warrant Officer Donen was ferrying an aircraft between America and Africa when his plane crashed in Accru, South Africa. His promotion to Warrant Officer (Class II) was announced posthumously. Warrant Officer Donen enlisted in the air force in Winnipeg and received his training at Brandon, Regina and Mossbank, graduating as a navigator observer from Rivers. He was attached to the R.A.F. Ferry Command at Dorval and made frequent trips back and forth across the Atlantic. Later, he transferred to another branch of the Command and ferried aircraft between the Bahamas and the Gold Coast. A brother, Norman Donen, also served with the R.C.A.F.

- Pilot Officer Jacob Feldman of Toronto, Ontario, was reported missing and presumed dead on December 29, 1944, according to an official announcement. Enlisting in the air force in 1941, Pilot Officer won his wings in London, England, in July 1944. He was on his 16th air operation when he failed to return from a flight over Gelsenkirchen-Buer, Germany. At the time, he was serving with the Moose Squadron as flight engineer in an aircraft named by crew members “Q for Queenie.” Pilot Officer Feldman’s commission was announced after he was reported missing.

- Flying Officer Arthur Goldman of St. Louis, Missouri, was for official purposes presumed dead on July 24, 1944, when his aircraft, of which he was the sole occupant, collided into a target being towed by another aircraft off the coast of England. He enlisted in the air force at Windsor on December 12, 1942.

- Captain Jacob Mandel of Estevan, Saskatchewan, died of wounds on August 14, 1944. Captain Mandel enlisted in the army on February 13, 1941. He served in the Halifax Military Hospital at Lawlor’s Island before being placed in charge of a 35-bed hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He went overseas in October 1942. At first attached to the Governor General’s Foot Guards’ Armoured Division in England, he later transferred to the 12th Ambulance Unit. He was serving with this unit when he was wounded. A brother, Aircraftman Henry Mandel, served with the R.C.A.F. Following the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources’ announcement that it desired to give to its many previously unnamed lakes, rivers and islands the names of Saskatchewan servicemen killed on active duty in World War II, in 1951 the province named Mandel Island in memory of Captain Jacob Mandel.

- Flight Sergeant David Shtitz of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, was reported missing and presumed dead following air operations on May 30, 1943. He enlisted in the air force at Winnipeg on January 1, 1942. His first raid, over Duisburg in April 1943, was described in a Canadian Press cable which quoted another flier: “The target area was covered with a carpet of fires when we got there two minutes after the second wave started. All the time we were there, there were more bombs going down. Several fires looked like big blazes and they must have been large, for black smoke from them came up to about 10,000 feet.”

- Warrant Officer Jacob Silverstein of Windsor, Ontario, He was mentioned in dispatches posthumously in the King’s Birthday Honours List of June 8, 1944. W/O Silverstein was aboard a Liberator bomber which disappeared on October 19, 1943, on a flight from Gander Lake, Newfoundland, to Tockcliffe, Ottawa. It was the worst disaster in the history of the R.C.A.F. The 24 men aboard were on leave after service at Gander from where they operated against German submarines in the North Atlantic. W/O Silverstein was listed as missing in active service after flying operations (R.C.A.F. Casualty List No. 723) and later presumed dead for official purposes. The aircraft was located on the peak of Black Mountain, near St. Donat, Quebec, on June 24, 1946, and a special funeral service for the 24 airmen was held on the mountain slope on July 3, 1946. The St. Donat Village Council undertook to care for the mass grave. A Star of David marks the burial place of W/O Silverstein.
