- Kalman asks Dora (Rosenberg) Lithwick (b. 1897) about her life from her earliest memories in Russia to her immigration to Ottawa, Canada as a married woman in 1923. She tells her detailed story in a lively, heavily accented voice. She recalls how hard they worked building up their grocery business in the market and explained that they were worn out by 1937. They decided to sell the business and move to Australia to be with her father and brothers and start a new life. However, life for a newcomer was more difficult than they imagined and after just one month they decided to return to Ottawa where they began investing in real estate. The recording ends with a story of how they purchased a property on Bank Street using a pedlar as an agent during the depression.
