OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 26, 1935, Page 2 Obituary Max Budovitch Fredericton, June 25 - (Staff Special) - Max Budovitch, one of Fredericton's oldest and best known Hebrew citizens, died here early today after an illness of some months. Surviving are his wife Molly; six sons, Louis, Reuben, Benjamin, Hyman, Jack and Samuel, all of Fredericton; two daughters, Mrs. Abraham Levine and Miss Lena Budovitch, both of this city and 22 grandchildren. Two stepsons, Harry Valensky and Nathan Valensky, reside in Fredericton, as do two step daughters, Mrs. Louis Lang and Mrs. Simon Chippin. One sister, Mrs. Samuel Novick, resides in New York. The funeral service was held at Saint John today, the cortege leaving Fredericton at 9.30 a.m. Rev. P. Cooperstein, Fredericton and Rev. M. Beshkin, Saint John, conducted the services. Mr. Budovitch was a member of the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue, this city. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.263.

OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 21, 1944 Mrs. Lena Aranoff Succumbs in City Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Lena Aranoff of 391 Main Street, widow of David Aranoff, which occurred in this city on Monday at noon. Mrs. Aranoff was born in Russia and resided in this city for 43 years. She was widely known and highly respected. She was a member of several Hebrew societies and in early life was an active member of them. Surviving are three sons, Saul, Harry and Louis, all of this city, two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Carter and Mrs. Saul Strauss, both of Montreal, and three grandchildren. The body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 113 King Street East, from where funeral will be held today (Tuesday) at 2:30 o’clock. Internment will be in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, November 18, 1961 Louis Baxt Dies in 90th year A retired businessman of this city, Louis Baxt, died early this morning in the Saint John General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Baxt, who was in his 90th year, was born in Malitopol, Russia, and came to Saint John in September, 1940. He had resided here ever since that time. His wife died on June 8th 1959. Surviving are two sons, Jack J. Baxt, Lancaster and Harry Baxt, Toronto Ont.; One daughter, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Mass, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2'oclock. Internment was at Fernhill Cemetery. Evening Times Globe Saturday, November 18, 1961 JM 2000.5.4 Funeral Held Funeral services were held form the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue Friday for Louis Baxt, whose death occurred at the Saint John General Hospital following a lengthy illness. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, October 27, 1988 Louis (Pinky) G. Slovitt of 15 Mecklenburg Street died Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Russia, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Bluma (Brinder) Slovitt. He came to Canada as a young man and spent the greater part of his life in Saint John. He had been employed for many years as a shoe salesman with Wiezel Bros. Ltd. and was an ardent sports fan. He was a member of the Shaarei Zedek congregation. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Donovan of Saint John and Mrs. Esther Melnick of Montreal; several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral will be held on Thursday with service at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Donations to the Hadassah Wizo organization by contacting Bernetta Guss at 652-3491 would be appreciated by the family. OBITUARIES: The Evening Times Globe, April 5, 1962, Page 2 In failing health for a lengthy period, Jacob J. Baxt died in hospital this morning. He was 56. Born in Saint John, the son of the late Louis and Lena Baxt, he had been a resident of the city all his life and was a well known business executive, having managed businesses in Saint John and Halifax.. In his younger life, Mr. Baxt had been active in Saint John YMHA. He was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. Surviving are a brother, Harry Baxt, Toronto, Ontario and a sister, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Massachusetts. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service conducted by Haazan Belzalel Silberberg. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Funeral on Thursday afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2:30 o’clock. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, May 21, 1958, page 26 Harry Slovitt Dies At Residence Stricken with a seizure, harry Slovitt, well-known local salesman, died Tuesday evening at his residence, 138 Metcalf Street. He was 50 years of age. He was born in Saint John, the son of Benjamin Slovitt, 92 Princess Street and the late Mrs. Bluma (Brinder) Slovitt. He had been a resident of this city all his life. Mr. Slovitt had been employed with Holtzman’s Ltd., Waterloo Street. He was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Patricia Lachle; four sons Pte. Charles Slovitt, serving with Canadian Army at London, Ont., Robert, Daniel and Bruce Slovitt all at home; his father; one brother Louis Slovitt, Saint John; four sisters, Mrs. Morris Donovan and Miss Fanny Slovitt, Saint John; the Misses Lena and Esther Slovitt, Montreal, Quebec; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from the vestry of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2:30 o’clock. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, December 16, 2006 Guss, Rose - The death of Rose (Shur) Guss of Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, N.B., wife of the late William Guss, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, December 15th, 2006. Born in Eagle Lake, Maine she was a daughter of the late Rubin and Ida (Rapaport) Shur. Rose was a graduate of Island Falls High School in Maine in 1927. She worked in New York for several years at a Steel Company before moving to Bangor to work at New Central Furniture Company and then with Burdell Clothing Store. Rose and Bill then moved to Calgary, AB, and later to Montreal, QC before moving to Saint John. Rose was an active member of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue and the Haddash B'nigh Organization. Rose is survived by her sister, Lena Denis of Bangor, Maine, her brother-in-law Max Fransblowof Saint John, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jacob, Morris and Benjamin and her sister, Ruth Shapiro. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (506-634-7424) with a funeral service on Sunday, December 17th, 2006 from Brenan's Chapel at 3 p.m. Interment will take place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 4, 1940, Page 10 Abraham Aranoff Dies In Hospital The death of Abraham Aranoff, well-known resident of the North End, occurred yesterday morning at the General Hospital after a brief illness. A son of Mrs. Lena and the late David Aranoff, he was born in Saint John and had resided here all his life. He was a member of the Hebrew Congregation of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. He was also a member of the Saint John branch of the New Brunswick Fish and Game Protective Association. Besides his mother, he is survived by four brothers, Morris Aranoff, New York, and Solomon, Harry and Louis, all of this city. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 21 Paradise Row, at 3 p.m. Service was conducted by Rabbi M. Beshkin, assisted by Rev. A. Babb. Interment was made in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.88. Additional notes: peddler
