OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 4, 1940, Page 10 Abraham Aranoff Dies In Hospital The death of Abraham Aranoff, well-known resident of the North End, occurred yesterday morning at the General Hospital after a brief illness. A son of Mrs. Lena and the late David Aranoff, he was born in Saint John and had resided here all his life. He was a member of the Hebrew Congregation of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. He was also a member of the Saint John branch of the New Brunswick Fish and Game Protective Association. Besides his mother, he is survived by four brothers, Morris Aranoff, New York, and Solomon, Harry and Louis, all of this city. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 21 Paradise Row, at 3 p.m. Service was conducted by Rabbi M. Beshkin, assisted by Rev. A. Babb. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 21, 1944 Mrs. Lena Aranoff Succumbs in City Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Lena Aranoff of 391 Main Street, widow of David Aranoff, which occurred in this city on Monday at noon. Mrs. Aranoff was born in Russia and resided in this city for 43 years. She was widely known and highly respected. She was a member of several Hebrew societies and in early life was an active member of them. Surviving are three sons, Saul, Harry and Louis, all of this city, two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Carter and Mrs. Saul Strauss, both of Montreal, and three grandchildren. The body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 113 King Street East, from where funeral will be held today (Tuesday) at 2:30 o’clock. Internment will be in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery. Born in Saint John, the son of the late Louis and Lena Baxt, he had been a resident of the city all his life and was a well known business executive, having managed businesses in Saint John and Halifax.. In his younger life, Mr. Baxt had been active in Saint John YMHA. He was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. Surviving are a brother, Harry Baxt, Toronto, Ontario and a sister, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Massachusetts. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service conducted by Haazan Belzalel Silberberg. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Mr. Baxt, who was in his 90th year, was born in Malitopol, Russia, and came to Saint John in September, 1940. He had resided here ever since that time. His wife died on June 8th 1959. Surviving are two sons, Jack J. Baxt, Lancaster and Harry Baxt, Toronto Ont.; One daughter, Mrs. Harry Marcus, Dorchester, Mass, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held this afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with service at 2'oclock. Internment was at Fernhill Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 26, 1935, Page 2 Obituary Max Budovitch Fredericton, June 25 - (Staff Special) - Max Budovitch, one of Fredericton's oldest and best known Hebrew citizens, died here early today after an illness of some months. Surviving are his wife Molly; six sons, Louis, Reuben, Benjamin, Hyman, Jack and Samuel, all of Fredericton; two daughters, Mrs. Abraham Levine and Miss Lena Budovitch, both of this city and 22 grandchildren. Two stepsons, Harry Valensky and Nathan Valensky, reside in Fredericton, as do two step daughters, Mrs. Louis Lang and Mrs. Simon Chippin. One sister, Mrs. Samuel Novick, resides in New York. The funeral service was held at Saint John today, the cortege leaving Fredericton at 9.30 a.m. Rev. P. Cooperstein, Fredericton and Rev. M. Beshkin, Saint John, conducted the services. OBITUARIES: Saint John Times Globe, October 26, 1999 After a courageous battle with cancer Benjamin Cohen died Sunday morning October 24, 1999 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Beloved husband of Jennie and devoted father of Lorie (Mrs. Win Hackett) of Rothesay, brother of Sara Jacobson of Fredericton, Jennie (Phil) Pinkus of Toronto, Leiba Katz of Brooklyn, N.Y. Born in Bath, N.B., he was the son of the late Lena (Jacobson) and Aaron Cohen. Predeceased by one sister, Mina Rothberg. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a gentle man known for his friendly smile and warm sense of humour. Ben was involved throughout his life in the business community of Saint John. He was the founding treasurer of the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum and served on the board of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. He took an active part in religious services at Congregation Shaarei Zedek as Gabbai Shanei. Graveside funeral Monday, October 25, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, Westmorland Road, Saint John. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum (633-1833) or the Palliative Care Wing of the Saint John Regional Hospital would be appreciated.
