History / Biographical
Sam W. Levy was born in Montreal on February 26, 1922 and attended Alfred Joyce school in Outremont and Baron Byng High School after. Mr. Levy was drafted into military service and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Because of vision problems, Mr. Levy served as a radar operator for 39 months, mainly at isolated stations such as Ferrer Point on Nootka Island and Cape St. James on Haida Quaii. After the war, Mr. Levy completed his studies, eventually culminating in a PhD from McGill under MS neurologist Dr. Roy Swank. Mr. Levy worked for over 35 years as a Clinical Biochemist, working for the most part at Queen Mary Veterans' Hospital and then the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In 1967, Mr. Levy married Yiddish teacher Pearl Wozgar and the couple had two daughters, Bronna and Naomi. Mr. Levy was actively involved in organizing and researching alumni of famed Baron Byng High School for numerous decades.
