OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, February 3, 1988, Page 28 Bessie Cohen of the Carlton Kirk Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of 82 Summer Street, Saint John, wife of the late Myer Cohen, died on Wednesday at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in the Soviet Union, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth Levine. She lived most of her life in Saint John. She was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. She was a lifelong member of the Hadassah-WIZO Organization and sisterhood. She is survived by one daughter, Jennie, Mrs. Ben Cohen of Saint John, two sons, Edgar and Israel, both of Saint John, two brothers, Simon and Nathan Levine, both of Saint John, one sister, Lillian Kashetsky of Saint John, seven grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the heart fund or Hadassah-WIZO Organization would be appreciated by the family. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 24, 2005 Kashetsky, Lillian - 1907-2005 - The death of Lillian Kashetsky in her 99th year, of Saint John, wife of the late Hyman Kashetsky, occurred on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Fredericton on March 28, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth Levine. Lillian was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek, a member of the Sisterhood Shaarei Zedek, and was a life member of the Henrietta Szold Chapter of the Canadian Hadassah-Wizo. She is survived by David Holland (Nancy) of Saint John, Ronald Levine (Sandra) of Saint John, Herzl Kashetsky (Faith) of Saint John, Ancil Kashetsky (Hannah) of Ontario, Jerome Kashetsky of Vancouver, B.C. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Abe Levine, Isaac Levine, Nathan Levine, and Simon Levine and sisters Nelly Haslett and Bessie Cohen. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, June 24, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, May 17, 2005 Levine, Simon - 1911-2005. Simon Levine, 93, of Saint John, husband of the late Katherine (Glustein) Levine, passed away on May 15, 2005 at his home after a long illness. Born on December 19, 1911 in Fredericton, N.B., he was a son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Levine. Simon resided in Saint John for the past 90 years. He started his own grocery business in 1931, Dominion Food Shop and later changed it to Simon's Furniture on Union Street. He always had a smile for his many long-standing customers and friends. Simon was a member of congregation Shaarei Zedek and a member of the New Brunswick Masonic Lodge #2. He received his '50 year' pin some years ago. He was a world traveler and an avid gardener, and won many prizes for his roses and dahlias. His charismatic story telling and sense of humour were well known by so many friends in his beloved Saint John. Simon was a frequent supporter of many charitable organizations. He donated to the Empty Stocking Fund by cutting the trees himself, and selling them for Christmas. He also ran for city council. Simon is survived by his sister, Lillian Kashetsky (Hymie); his daughter Lorraine Zides (Milton) of Ottawa, Ontario; his sons Leonard and David Levine of Ottawa, Ontario; his grandchildren; Heidi Zides of Toronto, Cheryl Dover (John) of Ottawa, Colin Zides (Andrea) of Font Hill and Andrea Zides of Toronto; great grandchildren; Shawna Picov, Michelle Picov, Saunya Dover, Milton Dover, Carter Zides and Sydney Zides, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Simon was predeceased by his sisters, Nelly Haslett (Roy), Bessie Cohen (Myer); his brother, Abe Levine (Margaret), Isaac Levine (Lillian) and Nathan Levine (Ruth). Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). A Masonic service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from Brenan's Chapel.
