OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, November 30, 1990 BASSEN— Peacefully at his residence on November 29, 1990, Milton (Mickey) Bassen of 400 Douglas Avenue, a well known Saint John businessman; survived by his wife, Patricia (Ganong) Bassen, one sister Helen Schneeberg of Philadelphia, two nieces, Karen Goodhart, of New York, and Susan Bronstein of San Fransico and several cousins. He was the son of the late Carl and Minnie Bassen. Resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Hadassah-Wizo by calling 648-9567 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Evening Times Globe Friday, November 30, 1990 Milton (Mickey) Bassen of 400 Douglas Avenue, husband of Patricia (Ganong) Bassin died on Thursday at his residence after a period of failing health. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Carl and Minnie Bassen. He attended local schools and Sir George William University in Montreal. He served in the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was a well-known businessman and served, with his late parents, as manager of Bassin's Ltd. on King Street. He was a member of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue and the Jewish War Veterans. He is survived by his wife; one sister, Helen Scheeberg of Philadelphia; two nieces, Karen Goodhart of New York and Susan Bronstein of San Francisco; and by several cousins. The body is resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, form where the funeral will be held today at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, November 16, 1935 Mrs. Minnie Budovitch Dies in Fredericton Mrs. Minnie Budovitch, widow of Max Budovitch, died suddenly early today at Fredericton following an illness of one day. Her husband died in June. She was born in Russia and came out to Saint John 22 years ago but had resided in Fredericton for 15 years. The body will be brought to the city by motor hearse tomorrow morning at 8:30 o’clock for burial here. Surviving are three sons, Nathan Valensky, by a former marriage and Harry and Samuel Budovitch; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Louis Lang and Mrs. Simon Chippin; five step-sons, Louis, Bennie, Ruben, Hyman and Jake Budovitch; two step-daughters, Mrs. Abe Levine and Miss Lena Budovitch, all of Fredericton; her father, Abraham Bercowetz, in Poland; four brothers and one sister in Poland, and one sister, Mrs. Max Zirolnik, New Rochelle, N.Y. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, March 3, 1952, Page 16 The death of Mrs. Hessia Garson, widow of Frank Garson, occurred at her residence, 210 Germain Street on Saturday. Mrs. Garson was born in Russia, a daughter of the late Zalman and Minnie Fine, and had been a resident of Saint John for the past 25 years. She had been ill for the past nine months. Mrs. Garson was active in the Hebrew Community in Saint John and was a member of the Shaarei Zedek. She was as well a member of the Henrietta Szold Chapter of Hadassah. Surviving are one son, Lewis Selby, Saint John, one brother, Samuel Fine; four sisters, Mrs. Edward Gilden, Mrs. Harry Bender, Mrs. Rose Epstein, and Mrs. Harry Litschitz, all of Chicago, as well as five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East from where the funeral will be held this afternoon with services at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, January 17, 1969, Page 16 Dr. A. P. Goldman Dies In Baltimore Dr. A. Percy Goldman, a well-known Saint John optometrist, died Thursday morning at the Belvedore Nursing, Baltimore, Md., after a lengthy period of ill-health. Born at Salisbury, Westmorland County, he was a son of Minnie Goldman and the late Joseph Goldman of Saint John. Mr. Goldman was educated at Saint John schools and graduated from Saint John High School. He furthered his education by attending Columbia University in New York for a year, from which he transferred to the Rochester School of Optometry, graduating with the 'golden key' in 1926. He was also granted a degree for the teaching of speed reading. Following graduation, he returned to Saint John and carried on his profession at 159 Union Street, in the Goldman Building which houses the Provincial Bank, until a little over a year ago, when he became ill. He married the former Annette Granstien of Montreal, who died in 1967. Mr. Goldman has been a member of the Saint John Board of Trade and founder of the Young Judeans Society in Saint John. During his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his mother, one son, Dr. Edwin of Baltimore; one brother, Dr. Sanford of New York; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Isaacs of Montreal; and several nieces and nephews. The body will arrive in Saint John at 10 o'clock this morning and will rest at the Calvin Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where funeral service will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, August 12, 1946, SB100, p. 158 Joseph L. Goldman Passes Suddenly Succumbing to a sudden heart attack, Joseph Louis Goldman, well known dry goods merchant, died at his home, 26 Wall Street, yesterday and deep sympathy has been extended to those bereaved. Mr. Goldman was 72 years of age and was born in Minsk, Russia. He came to Canada about fifty years ago and after a brief period when he made his home in Salisbury, N.B., he came to Saint John and had been successfully engaging in merchandising here since then. He took an active part in the affairs of the Hebrew Congregation and had membership in the Masonic Order. Besides his wife, Mrs. Minnie Goldman, who had taken a prominent part in the work of the women’s organizations in the city, Mr. Goldman is survived by two sons, A. Percy and Sanford, of Saint John; two daughters, Mrs. Ben Attis, Moncton and Mrs. Hart Isaacs of this city; three grandsons, one granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. S. Rabkin, Saint John, Mrs. A. Abramsky, Saskatchewan, and Mrs. M. Goldman, Montreal, and one half brother, Edgar Winner, Brookline, Mass. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East. Interment will be in the Hebrew Cemetery at Fernhill.
