OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, December 15, 1944 Struck by Car, Mrs. Rebecca Rozovsky Dies in Hospital. Friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Rebecca Rozovsky which occurred in the Saint John General Hospital last evening. Mrs. Rozovsky, who was in her 86th year, was injured in a street accident last Tuesday evening and has been a patient in the hospital since that time. An inquest into her death will be held tonight in the Court House beginning at 8:15 o’clock, it was announced by Dr. C. L. Emerson, coroner. At the time of the accident, it was reported that Mrs. Rozovsky stepped out from between two parked cars on Main Street and was struck by an auto driven by Anthony Henry, 12 Summer Street, West Saint John, which had just pulled away from the curb. Mrs. Rozovsky was on her way to a birthday party for one of her grandchildren. She was the widow of Hyman Rozovsky, and was born in Nesviz, Province of Linsk, White Russia, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac J. Goldman. Mrs. Rozovsky has resided in this city for the past 32 years and was a member of the Hebrew Congregation and was active in many societies of the Congregation. She was a member of the Daughters of Israel and of Hadassah. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. I. Elman and Mrs. H. Davis, both of this city; four sons, Nathan and Abraham of this city; Louis, of Halifax, and Miguel, of Buenos Aires; two sisters, Mrs. S. Rabkin of Saint John and Mrs. Rose Abramsky of Saskatchewan; one brother, Joseph Goldman of Saint John and one half brother, Edgar Weiner, of New York; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from her residence, 42 Spring Street, today at 2:30 o’clock. Interment will be in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, July 25, 1942 [Telegraph Journal / Evening Times Globe] Nathan Holtzman Passes Suddenly A wide circle of friends will learn with regret of the sudden death yesterday in Saint John Regional Hospital of Nathan Holtzman of 182 Prince Edward Street. Mr. Holtzman was born in Poland, son of the late Harry and Rachel Holtzman of Poland but has been a resident of Saint John for more than 45 years. He was well known and highly esteemed. Of a jovial nature, he will be missed by a great many friends. He was one of he oldest members of the Shaarei Zedek Congregation and was active in all work connected to the synagogue. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Nathan Liphshetz, Fredericton; Miss Ethel of New York, and Miss Ada at home; four sons, Abe and Jack of New York City and Harry and Morris of Saint John and also four grandchildren. The body is resting at Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East from where the funeral will be held on Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, July 4, 1960, Page 3 John Ross Dies in Nova Scotia The death of John Ross, Truro, N.S. occurred Saturday morning at his summer residence, Shortts Lake, Colchester County. He was 85 years of age. His passing followed a month after that of his wife, Mrs. Rachel Ross who died on May 21. It was the third death in the family circle this year. A daughter, Mrs. Ben Sharpe, died at St. Catharine's, Ontario on Feb. 6. Surviving are two sons, Max Ross and Harry Ross, both of Truro, N.S., two daughters, Mrs. Jack Calp, Saint John, Mrs. Joseph Fritz, Kentcille, N.S.; a brother Peter Ross, London, Ontario; two sisters, Mrs. A. Dreskin, Saint John and Mrs. M. Schecter, Perth Amboy, N.J.; as well as 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body was brought to Saint John and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the vestry of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with the service conducted by Rabbi Avraham Greenspan of Halifax. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, October 27, 1989 Jacob (Jack) Cohen of Loch Lomond Villa, husband of the late Alice (Kunitzky) Cohen, died at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday. He was 102. Born in Poland, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rachel Cohen. He has been a resident of Saint John since 1910 and as a ladies' clothing manufacturer. He owned and operated Imperial Cloak and Glamour Garment Company. He was a member of the congregation Shaarei Zedek. His son Joseph Cohen, died in 1987. He is survived by two sons, Samuel Cohen of Saint John and Hyman Cohen of Winthrop Mass; one sister, Pesha Zuckerman of Israel; four grandchildren; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, from where the funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment at the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 18, 1938 Mrs. Rachel Shephard - The funeral of Mrs. Rachel Shephard, wife of Ralph Shephard, who died at Fredericton Thursday morning was held from Chamberlain’s Funeral Parlor yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock, with many present. OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, July 5, 1952, Page 5 Ernest Gilbert, long associated with Duval’s Ltd., 15-17 Waterloo Street died at an early hour in the General Hospital on Saturday morning and his death will be learned with deep regret by a host of friends and business acquaintances. Mr. Gilbert had been in failing health for some time. He was 61 years of age. Mr. Gilbert was born in Montreal and was a son of the late Rachel and Harris (Aaronson) Gilbert. [He was a resident] of Saint John for about 50 years. He resided at 80 Princess Street and was an active member of the congregation Shaarei Zedek. A veteran of the first World War, Mr. Gilbert served overseas with the Royal Flying Corps. Upon his return he joined the staff of Duval’s and continued in his employ until his death. He was a member of the Saint John Branch No. 14, of the Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth McGinnis of Fredericton; two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Paikowsky and Miss Annie Gilbert of Saint John, as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held yesterday at noon from the residence. The service was conducted by Rev. P. H. Green and Rev. E. Slotki. Relatives and friends were pallbearers. Interment was in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Among the profusion the floral tributes were from the Brantford Roofing (Maritimes) Ltd; Martin Senour Co. Ltd; Management and staff of Duval’s and officers and members of Canadian Legion.
