OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, September 3, 1996 On September 2, 1996, Mrs. T. (Tessie) Calp, 83 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. The daughter of the late John and Rachel Ross, she was born in, and remained a life long resident of Saint John. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1992, a sister Ethel Sharpe, and two brothers, Harry and Max Ross. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Mark (Susan) and Norman (Bonnie), four grandchildren, Shannah, David, Keiver, and Keri, a sister Mrs. Aida Fritz (Kentville), brother in law Mr. Abe Calp, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and Casey. Mrs. Calp was a graduate of Saint John High School and Modern Business College. Following her marriage, she became a working partner with her husband Jack in the establishment of the family business, Jack Calp Ltd. Men’s Wear, for 42 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a life long member of Shaarei Zedek Congregation and a life long member of Henrietta Szold chapter of Hadassah WIZO, a member of Sisterhood Shaari Zedek Synagogue, and of Saint John Regional Hospital auxiliary, and an active member of the Saint John Chevra Kadisha Society. The funeral will be held from Castle Funeral Home, (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, with interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, Westmorland Road. Sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the surgical floor and palliative care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Special thanks to her private care nurses. A person with an immense passion for life and respect for others, Tessie Calp will be sadly missed and always remembered with love. Her whole purpose in life was giving to others, and she fulfilled that purpose very well, and continued to give until to the very last day of her life. Cooking and baking, needlepoint, and making afghans were just some of the many ways that Mrs. Calp gave of herself, as her immediate thoughts were always for others. She was a generous and caring individual with her family as well as others, who came to think of her as their second mother.
