She was 71. She had been ill for several months but her condition was considered improving until about two weeks ago. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Selick, who, when she was a small girl brought her to this county from Lithuania. They settled in Saint John and after her marriage here 53 years ago, she resided in this city until 1934 when Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson moved to Halifax. During her time in Saint John, Mrs. Jacobson was a prominent member of the Jewish community, active in such organizations as the Daughters of Israel, Hebrew Ladies' Aid Society, and Hadassah Organization of Canada. She had an unusually wide circle of friends both in Halifax and in Saint John, which she visited, at frequent intervals. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Samuel G. Jacobson, businessman of Dartmouth, N.S.; five daughters, Mrs. Sam Cavel, Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Joshua Leiberman, 67 Orange Street, Saint John, Mrs. Israel Cohen, 23 Orange Street, Saint John; Mrs. Ronald S. Her son and his wife and her daughters and their husbands accompanied the body from Halifax to Saint John. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue with burial in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.187. Notes
Section Officer Rose Goodman of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, was reported killed accidentally (R.C.A.F. Casualty List No. 487), when the Crane training plane in which she was flying from Lethbridge crashed near Claresholm, Alberta. She was the first member of the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force to lose her life on active service. Section Officer Goodman enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in October 1941 and received her preliminary training in Toronto, where she was a member of the first glass to graduate from the Administrative Training Course. After serving as sergeant instructress at Moncton, New Brunswick, she was commissioned and was posted to Alberta as adjutant. The New Glasgow News wrote of her passing: “...She made her choice; she has given her life for her country. “She served—and died—that men may fly. “That we may win this war.”
