- b&w, outdoor. A man, Avrum Katz, is shown here using surveying equipment to guide construction along with the man in charge of blueprint and the geometre both seen in the background. Narrative: Awrum Katz was the donor's father. Born in 1892, Awrum was married to Rebecca Pfeffer. He worked as a civil engineer. They moved to England in 1939, with their children Rose and Moshe. From England they travelled to New York to attend the World Fair. They were denied citizenship in the USA and later settled in Montreal. Avrum worked as a peddler and attended university at night to become a civil engineer. He died in 1942.

- OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, January 9, 1996 Davis – At the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 7, 1996, Sam Davis of Saint John, husband of the late Gladys L. (Weizel) Davis, born in Saint John, the son of the late Harry and Ida (Rozovsky) Davis, Mr. Davis was a retired businessman and former mayor of Saint John. He is survived by four sons, Roy and wife Ziva, Toronto, Gary and wife Lana, Saint John, Jan Davis, Montreal, Alan and wife Carolyn Rose, Toronto; 2 brothers Abe A. and wife Goldie, Saint John, Isadore and wife Ruth, Saint John, 7 grandchildren, Nathan, Audrey, Anthony, Gregory, Alisa, and Ruby. Predeceased by sister Rose and brother Eli. Resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) from where the funeral will be held from the chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and UNB would be appreciated by the family. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.463. - Section Officer Rose Goodman of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, was reported killed accidentally (R.C.A.F. Casualty List No. 487), when the Crane training plane in which she was flying from Lethbridge crashed near Claresholm, Alberta. She was the first member of the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force to lose her life on active service. Section Officer Goodman enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in October 1941 and received her preliminary training in Toronto, where she was a member of the first glass to graduate from the Administrative Training Course. After serving as sergeant instructress at Moncton, New Brunswick, she was commissioned and was posted to Alberta as adjutant. The New Glasgow News wrote of her passing: “...She made her choice; she has given her life for her country. “She served—and died—that men may fly. “That we may win this war.”
