OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, February 14, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Salomon 'Saul' (Charyski) Harris of Saint John, NB, husband of 58 years to Lillian (Zatzman) Harris which occurred on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers. Born in Szopianice, Poland, he was a son of the late, Myer and Deena Charyski and seven siblings. After surviving three concentration camps, Skarsysko, Czestochewa and Buchenwald in Poland from 1942 - 1945, he moved to Saint John, where he owned and operated Harris Men's Wear on Union Street for over thirty years. Saul was an active member of Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. He enjoyed watching wrestling, playing cards and enjoyed taking walks around the uptown area of Saint John. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters; Deena Harris-Peiser (Tomas) of Rothesay, NB and Paula Power (Michael) of Saint John, two grandchildren; Brent Peiser and Jeremy Power, his sister-in-law, Sophie (Sandler) Richmond of Toronto, ON, as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506-634-7424). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 from Brenan's Chapel at 2:15 pm. Interment to take place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. There will be a reception following the interment at the Loch Lomond Villa. OBITUARIES: Daily Telegraph, March 22, 1922 Obituary Mrs. Louis Hurwitz The death of Mrs. Dora Hurwitz, wife of Louis Hurwitz of 25 Long Wharf, occurred suddenly on Monday night about 8 o’clock in the General Public Hospital following an attack of heart failure. She was taken ill about 6 o’clock in the evening and Dr. A.E. Macauley was called. He ordered her taken to the hospital where she died about eight. She was a native of Russia, and was about thirty-nine years of age. Mrs. Hurwitz leaves one son, Azel; one daughter, Annie; three brothers, S. Rabkin of Albert Co, and two others in Russia; also two sisters in Russia. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.388.
