- OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, December 30, 1940, Page 10 Mrs. Fanny Bassen dies at home, succumbs to short illness; funeral will be held today Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Fanny Bassen, wife of Max Bassen, which occurred at her residence, 245 Union St., on Sunday evening after a short illness. She was born in Poland and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Goldman, formerly of Poland. She had resided in this city for the last ?? years. She was a member of the Hebrew congregation and her life was very active in church work. She leaves to mourn her husband; one son Carl Bassen of this city; two sisters, and nine brothers all of Chicago, USA. The Funeral will be held from her residence, 245 Union Street today at 3 p.m. Internment will be made in the Hebrew plot at Fernhill Cemetery. - OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, February 3, 1988, Page 28 Bessie Cohen of the Carlton Kirk Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of 82 Summer Street, Saint John, wife of the late Myer Cohen, died on Wednesday at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in the Soviet Union, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth Levine. She lived most of her life in Saint John. She was a member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. She was a lifelong member of the Hadassah-WIZO Organization and sisterhood. She is survived by one daughter, Jennie, Mrs. Ben Cohen of Saint John, two sons, Edgar and Israel, both of Saint John, two brothers, Simon and Nathan Levine, both of Saint John, one sister, Lillian Kashetsky of Saint John, seven grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley) 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the heart fund or Hadassah-WIZO Organization would be appreciated by the family. Donations were received for the Hadassah WIZO Organization of Canada; New Brunswick Heart Foundation, including those from staff of Hoffman’s, Operating Room staff SJRH, Gordex Minerals Limited, management and staff of Nova Scotia Savings & Loan, Saint John Park PC Association, and from Host Travel; Canadian Cancer Society, including those from Job Re-enter Secretarial Network, and from the manager and staff of Bank of Commerce, King Street; Hospice of Saint John Inc., including one from Saint John Fundy PC Federal Woman’s Caucus: Gideon Memorial Bible Plan; and for the Senator Emerson Foundation. - Three pages, double-sided printing, compiled into a booklet of twelve pages in length, crease horizontally and vertically, includes Austrian airmail envelope. This 1978 annual report describes Simon Wiesenthal Center’s pursuit of Nazi war criminals. Printed for the purpose of spreading awareness of current Nazi and Nazi criminal's activity with the goal that these periodicals will inform the public and invite further leads as to the location of other Nazi criminals who have not stood trial for their crimes. Narrative: Rev. Isodore Lorincz was born 6 January 1908 in Hungary. His parents were Lowi Netti and Loliner (?) Jakob. He attended high school and Yeshiva, and graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary of Budapest with ordination and smicha. During World War 2 his family was killed in Auschwitz. He came to Canada in 1957 after fleeing the revolution in Hungary. He served in two congregations before serving the Shaare Zedek Congregation as ritual director, then as Chazzan Sheni with a congregation in Hamilton, Ontario, for three years. Afterwards he served as rabbi in Port Colborne, Ontario. He settled in Montreal, Quebec, in 1962 where he became Chazzan Sheni for the next 26 years. He and his wife, Zita, continued to live in Montreal until there death around 2005.
