OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, January 8, 1992 Calp – After a brief illness on January 7, 1992 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Jack Calp of 46 Fifth Street, Saint John, husband of Teresa (Ross) Calp; survived by his loving wife, two sons, Mark Calp of Saint John, Norman Calp and his wife, Bonnie of Renforth, one brother, Abe Calp of Saint John, grandchildren, Shannah and David of Edmonton, Alberta, Keiver and Keri of Renforth, N.S., several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held January 9, 1992, Thursday, with service at 3:30 p.m. at the Castle Funeral Home (Hillsley), 91 Leinster Street, Saint John. Interment in the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please contact the Hadassah-WIZO Organization, 648-9568 or charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. The Evening Times Globe Wednesday, January 8, 1992 Jack Calp dead at 80 Jack Calp (Jacob Ben Marcus), well-known Saint John businessman considered an authority in the Canadian clothing industry, died at the Saint John Regional Hospital Tuesday after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Odessa, Ukraine, son of the late Marcus and Sarah (Zelkin) Calp. The family's land and specialty clothing business was confiscated during the Bolshevik revolution but the family escaped with their lives and emigrated to Canada when Jack Calp was 14, arriving in December, 1926. Jack Calp worked as an operator in a clothing factory in Saint John. He was also a 'newsie' with the Canadian Pacific Railway, traveling between Saint John and Montreal. With brother Abe, Jack Calp entered into business, launching Calp's Ltd. In 1948, Jack and his wife Teresa (Ross) opened a high quality men's specialty store. He was consulted on many occasions on men's fashion trends by Canada's top suit manufacturers. The store continues to flourish today under the ownership of their son, Norman. Jack Calp was a member of the Shaarei Zedek congregation, the Canadian Zionist organization, the Saint John Shomar Club and the Masonic Order Saint John Lodge 2. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; two sons, Mark of Saint John and Norman and his wife Bonnie of Renforth; his brother, Abe of Saint John; grandchildren Shannah and David of Edmonton, Alta. and Keiver and Keri of Renforth; and several nieces and nephews. Special words were read by Dr. Fred Ross. Honorary pallbearers were Rev Malcolm Berry, Bill Coffey, Abe Davis, Sam Davis, Mike Doyle, Tom Drummie, Q.C., Glen Fairweather, John Fallon, Mitchell Franklin, Dr. Lewis Freedman, Ken Galbraith, Abe Gilbert, Abe Goldberg, Lloyd Goldsmith, Tibor Halassy, Harry Holtzman, Donald Kerr, Elsie Kingston, Arthur Lee-White, David Lubin, Dr. Ed Lund, George Maniatis, Ellis Ross, Max Ross and Mayor Elsie Wayne. Active pallbearers were David Calp, Keiver Calp, Mark Goldsmith, Herzl Kashetsky, Dr. Fred Ross, Joel Ross, Keith Ross and Norman Ross. Floral tributes were received from the Staff of Calps Ltd. and Hong Kong Take Out Restaurant. And Worshipful Master and Brethren of St. John's Lodge 2 F and AM; to Hestia House; Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; the Canadian Diabetes Association; Agudath Israel Synagogue of Ottawa; Canadian Magen David Adam for Israel; Memorial Fund of the Fundy Hospital Association Ltd.; Na'Amat U.S.A.; Hymie Whitzman Memorial Fund; Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation of Canada; The Torah Fund; The League of Shaar Shalom; and Youth Aliyah. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, March 22, 1997 Goldman, Dr. Sanford G. – At New York City on March 20th, 1997, Dr. Sanford G. Goldman of Park Avenue, New York, N. Y., husband of Elaine (Schwadach) Goldman. Dr. Goldman was born in Boston and was a son of the late Joseph and Minnie (Gordan) Goldman. Before his retirement Dr. Goldman was a dentist. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and also several grandnieces and grandnephews. Resting at Hillsley Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street, 634-1700. OBITUARIES: Daily Telegraph, July 26, 1918 Obituary Louis Michelson, associated with his brothers, the proprietors of Brown’s grocery, corner of Richmond and Brussels streets, was buried yesterday.
