OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 22, 2006 Fransblow, Max - Peacefully, in St. Catharine's, ON, on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Ida (Guss). Dearly loved father of Jerome of Abbotsford, British Colombia, June Mary Fransblow and Michael Karenberg of Kingston, ON and Marlene and her husband Howard Slepkov of St. Catharine's, ON. Cherished and much admired grandfather of Rebecca and Noah Slepkov. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and their families. He is survived by his sister, Kay Cohen (the late Nathan) of Moncton and his sisters-in-law Sylvia Fransblow of Fredericton, Bernice Fransblow of Vancouver, British Colombia and Rose Guss (the late William) of Saint John. He is predeceased by his brothers, Edward (Rose), Louis, Harry, Hyman, William, his twin brother Joseph, his sister Bernetta Guss (Abe) and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ben and Millie Guss, Jack and Jean Guss and Joseph Guss. Max was the proprietor of Fransblow Grocery in Saint John for many years. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, 29 Wellington Row, Saint John, N.B. E2L 3H4. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 2011.106.34. OBITUARIES: Saint John Telegraph Journal, November 13, 2002 The death of Mrs. Ruth Phyllis (Gauvin) Davis, of Saint John, NB, wife of Isadore Davis, occurred on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ada (Webber) Gauvin. She is survived by her husband, Isadore 'Izzie', her four sons, Richard Davis and Frederick (Barbara) Davis both of Toronto, ON, Glen (Debbie) Davis of Richmond, BC, and Danny (Danielle) Davis of Halifax, NS, one daughter, Sally Karlinsky (Harry) of Richmond, BC, five granddaughters, Ashley, Fanny, Jenna, April, and Elizabeth, and two grandsons, Samuel and Eli. She was predeceased by her parents. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 2:00 PM from Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. Interment will take place at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 2002.56.25. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, November 5, 2002 The death of Mrs. Bertha Rubin (Goldstein) Master, of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Robert Master, occurred peacefully at her residence, on Monday, November 4, 2002. Born in Saint John,, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Rose (Rubin) Goldstein. Bertha was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She had formerly been employed at Princess Dress Shop on Union Street, Jacobson’s Furniture Store and had retired from Dalmy’s Ladies Clothing Store on Charlotte Street following many years of employment. She was a volunteer at the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, and was a member of the Toastmaster’s Women’s Group and the Hadassah Wizo. Bertha was very active at the Senior Citizen’s Centre at the Saint John City Market and had a large circle of friends, which encompassed many age groups. She is survived by three nieces, Janet Stern (Alan) of Halifax, Roslyn Avery of Toronto, and Susan Shaver of Stouffville, ON, one nephew, Michael Goldstein (Allison) of Mississauga, ON, a friend, Darlene Woodford, as well as numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, her parents, and two brothers, Ben and Murice Goldstein. The funeral servie will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. Interment will take place at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, (Fernhill Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Jewish Historical Museum or the Church of Saint John and St. Stephen Nursing Home would be appreciated. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 2003.56.31. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, May 16, 2002 The death of Mr. Philip Hamburg of MacLean's Speical Care Home, 268 Golden Grove Road, Saint John, husband of the late Belle (Dreskin) Hamburg. occurred on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Mr. Hamburg owned and operated Dreskin's Ladies' Wear, for many years, before his retirement and was an active member of the Congregation Shaarei Zedek. He is survived by three sons, David Hamburg (Pesha Gordon) of Jerusalem, Israel, Norman Hamburg (Linda) of Saint John and Harvey Hamburg (Paul Sabin) of Toronto, ON, seven grandchildren, Chaya, Raya, Avi, Orli, Shirli Hamburg all of Israel and Andrew and Jason Hamburg of Saint John. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Philip's devoted caregivers Wayne and Bonnie MacLean and Staff. Funeral will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Parasdise Row, Saint John (634-7424), on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at 3:00 pm. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. 135 pages. Hardcover, cardboard bound. Cover is blue, fabric with the title printed in the centre, in silver, surrounded by a square border. There is a glossy dustjacket that goes over the cover, with a colour illustration of a Jewish uprising. The back of the jacket is blue-grey, with a partial illustration of an arm with a Star of David armband. Interior pages are glossy, white; they consist of text and coloured illustrations. Narrative: This book is a publication from the exhibit "The Art and Politics of Arthur Szyk", which was created by the United States Holocaust Memorial Centre.
