hardcover binding, with brown fabric tape covering the spine and part of the cardboard cover; a layer of black, faux leather finishing is glued on top of the cover, with the corners cut off exposing the original brown cardboard surface; 3 additional small pieces of paper have been glued onto the front cover; the top 2 pieces of paper show text in Hebrew ? and/or Yiddish ? (needs verification) and the bottom piece has been written in English. The original use of the book was a sales book, and the pages are beige and have red horizontal and vertical lines throughout; the spine is held together with string. Additional pieces of paper have been glued onto the inside covers and pages; scraps of newspaper (text and photos) have been glued into each page; dates have been written in pencil on each article. 2 additional paper and string bound booklets were tucked at the end of the scrapbook; they are not attached to the rest of the book; these also contain newspaper articles. Narrative: book of newspaper clippings from apparently Kanader Adler concerning fate of Jews in Europe as well as news of deaths of Jewish Canadian servicemen

93 pages. Across the top of the cover is the Canadian Coat of Arms, and in the bottom center is a Star of David, with a wreath around the outside of it. Bertram Ellison is mentioned on page 17. Narrative: Bertram Ellison (donor's uncle) was born on March 19 1909 in Montreal. He was born into a Jewish family, and was an insurance broker before the war. He joined the Canadian Army on June 5th 1941 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Between 1941 and 1945 he rose to the rank of major, and received 6 medals, including the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire which he received on December 18t 1945. He was part of the 21st Army Group, which was formed on July 9th 1943 by the 2nd British and 1st Canadian Army for a North Western European Invasion. While apart of the 21st Army Group, he saw Bergen-Belsen. Bertram Ellison sailed home on the RMS Queen Elisabeth on December 3rd – 9th 1945.

64 pages, green flexible cardboard cover, bound with staples. Notebook issued by the Department of Mines and Resources Canada with information on preventing forest fires, Canadian National Parks, first aid, weights and measures, etc. Pages 27-28 contain notes taken by Gustave Bauer: some information on blankets from Simpson's on page 27, and the address of Mr. Jack Wechsler ?, c/o Palca Company, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, on page 28. Pages 29-54 are blank. Pages 64 and inside back cover contain calendars for the years 1939-40. Narrative: This document was donated by Eudice Bauer, the wife of Gustave Bauer. It was issued to him in 1940 during his internment in Camp B, New Brunswick, where he worked in the forest. Gustave was born in 1924 in Hamburg, Germany, and was on vacation in Denmark with his mother Anna and brother Werner when the Nuremberg Laws of 1935 were passed. They decided not to return to Germany, and went to stay with Anne's sister in Brussels, Belgium. Gustave's father Manfred was arrested for smuggling money out of Germany and spent the next two years in prison. Manfred joined his family in Brussels when he was released from prison in 1937. In 1940, immediately before Germany occupied Belgium, all German males born before 1924 were ordered to register. Manfred and Werner were sent to France, where they were interned. On their way to France to join them, Gustave and his mother were arrested and sent to England on the last boat to leave Belgium before it was occupied. In England, Gustave spent time in Folkestone, Pentonville Prison, Kempton Park, and Douglas, Isle of Man. He was in England from May 19 to July 4, 1940. IOn July 4, 1940 he was sent to Canada on the S.S. Sobiesky with other German nationals as prisoners of war.He was in Camp T, in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, from July 15 to August 12, 1940. He was thenmoved to Camp B, in New Brunswick, and then in 1941 was sent with other Jewish internees to Camp I, Île aux Noix, Quebec. He was sponsored for release in 1942, and his mother joined him in Canada in 1947. His father was deported from Drancy to Majdanek in 1943. It is unknown what happened to Gustave's brother Werner once he was sent to France. Neither man survived the war.

40 pages. Housed in a blue binder, with a clear sleeve on the front cover: inserted inside is a white title page with the title printed in the middle. Pages are loose-leaf, inserted into clear plastic sleeves. Contains an introduction and a copy, and translation, of the magazine 'Hlas P?dy Q306', issues 1-3. Narrative: The magazine was conceived by children under 12 years of age, that was started in Janary 1944, with only 3 issues appearing. The children who developed the magazine lived with their mothers in the crowded attic Q306. The editor-in-chief was Mariana Kornova, b. 1931-06-18. She signed the first edition. She was murdered in Auschwitz 1944-10-06. (Text taken pg. 5 of this book).

326 pages, softcover. The cover features the frightened face of man. The top of his head is a green ship underneath a stormy blue sky. The back has a picture of the author on t.l., a short biography and an excerpt from the book. Narrative: The author is Romanian and the book is about the sinking of the MV Struma, a ship that was carring 781 Romanian Jewish refugees trying to escape to Palestine. There was only one survivor, David Stoliar. The author, Michel Solomon, served in North Africa in the British Army during the war.
