The picture in front of the postcard shows the Jewish National house in Czernowitz, to the left of the house in the foreground is a statue of a man, surrounded by a stone fence. On the back is a stamp from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire with a portrait of Kaiser Franz Joseph, worth 5 Heller. Narrative: This postcard was written by Bernhard Kissman (Donor's father) to his fiancee Fritzi Winter (Donor's mother) who lived at that time with her parents in Tescheutz, Bukowina. They got married in July 1913. Bernhard Kissman worked at various places in forestry. Postcards between them were written daily, often a letter followed.

The front there is an illustration of Dr. Ignaz Zollschan. He is wearing a suit and tie. On the back is a stamp from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire with a portrait of Kaiser Franz Joseph, worth 5 Heller. Dr. Ignaz Zollschan was a Jewish anthropologist who discussed ideas of the Jews as a race. He believed that the Jews were a "mixed race" of people whose racial ancestry came from the Semitic and Hittite peoples of the ancient Near East. Narrative: This postcard was written by Bernhard Kissman (Donor's father) to his fiancee Fritzi Winter (Donor's mother) who lived at that time with her parents in Tescheutz, Bukowina. Notes
Circular shape, embroidered with fabric flowers, cross-stitched with floss. Border is fringed. Narrative: Handcrafted from Czernowitz (today Chernivtsi), Bukovina. Name of the donor' great-great grandmother, Cohen, is embroidered on the bottom flap. The matzah cover has been handed down through generations. The mother of the donor, Suzie Rosenblatt (nee Mier) kept it hidden in the Bershad concentration camp in Transnistria (Ukraine). The donor's brother, Jacob Wardi, was also in Bershad. Donor Regina Stiglitz (Rosenblatt) was in a different work camp called Muraffa. The family was reunited after the war and emigrated to Canada in 1962.
