Enlisting with the R.C.A.F. in August 1942, Flying Officer Sucharov graduated as a navigator from No. 5 Air Observers School at Winnipeg in October 1943. He went overseas in April 1944.

Captain Harry Marantz of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was killed in action on August 14, 1944. He was posthumously mentioned in dispatches in a Department of National Defence release (P.N. 146-45) of February 2, 1945. He was killed in action in France on August 14, 1944. Enlisting in the army in July 1941, Captain Marantz was stationed at Military District No. 10 before proceeding overseas in May 1942 to serve as medical officer with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. Two brothers, Sergeant Barney Marantz and Flight Sergeant David Marantz, served with the R.C.A.F.

Captain Fred Pascal, R.C.A., of Montreal, died of wounds received in action in France on August 8, 1944. He was buried in the Canadian Military Cemetery at Beny-sur-Mer, France. Captain Pascal qualified for his commission with the McGill Canadian Officers Training Corps and went overseas in November 1940. He received his captaincy in April of the following year. A brother, S.A.M.S. Arthur Pascal, served overseas with the 17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars. Captain Fred Pascal was the son J. Pascal (J. Pascal Hardware Company).

Lance Sergeant Jack Faibish of Markinch, Saskatchewan, was officially reported killed in action in the invasion of Normandy, France, on July 28, 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Certificate of Good Service by Field Marshal Lord Montgomery of Errigal. Sergeant Faibish enlisted in the army on September 11, 1939, and went overseas shortly afterwards. His brother, Max, served with the R.C.A.F. in Bombay, India. “Montreal, August 8, 1951 - Earlier, we reported on the policy of the Department of Natural Resources of the province of Saskatchewan to name lakes, rivers and islands in newly surveyed areas in honour of former residents of Saskatchewan who had been killed in action while serving the Canadian Armed Forces. We furnished the Saskatchewan government with a list of Jewish servicemen compiled from our publication ‘Canadian Jews in WWII,’ the first part of which was devoted to those killed during the war. The announcement made by the Saskatchewan government on July 10 included the following locations named after Jewish men: Faibish Bay, after Jack Faibish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Faibish, Markinch, Sask.; Levine Lake, after David Levine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Levine, Swift Current, Sask.; Glansberg Lake after Rifleman Maurice Glansberg.” (CJC publication IOI #1175)

Pilot Officer Jack Spevak, of Ottawa, Ontario, enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in the summer of 1942 and was awarded his wings at No. 5 Bombing and Gunnery School, Dafoe, Saskatchewan, in August 1943. In September 1943 he arrived in Britain. In the early morning of July 25, 1944, his aircraft failed to return after bombing operations over Stuttgart, Germany, and he was presumed dead. His aircraft went down near the French-German border.
