OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, November 16, 1935 Mrs. Minnie Budovitch Dies in Fredericton Mrs. Minnie Budovitch, widow of Max Budovitch, died suddenly early today at Fredericton following an illness of one day. Her husband died in June. She was born in Russia and came out to Saint John 22 years ago but had resided in Fredericton for 15 years. The body will be brought to the city by motor hearse tomorrow morning at 8:30 o’clock for burial here. Surviving are three sons, Nathan Valensky, by a former marriage and Harry and Samuel Budovitch; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Louis Lang and Mrs. Simon Chippin; five step-sons, Louis, Bennie, Ruben, Hyman and Jake Budovitch; two step-daughters, Mrs. Abe Levine and Miss Lena Budovitch, all of Fredericton; her father, Abraham Bercowetz, in Poland; four brothers and one sister in Poland, and one sister, Mrs. Max Zirolnik, New Rochelle, N.Y. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, June 26, 1935, Page 2 Obituary Max Budovitch Fredericton, June 25 - (Staff Special) - Max Budovitch, one of Fredericton's oldest and best known Hebrew citizens, died here early today after an illness of some months. Surviving are his wife Molly; six sons, Louis, Reuben, Benjamin, Hyman, Jack and Samuel, all of Fredericton; two daughters, Mrs. Abraham Levine and Miss Lena Budovitch, both of this city and 22 grandchildren. Two stepsons, Harry Valensky and Nathan Valensky, reside in Fredericton, as do two step daughters, Mrs. Louis Lang and Mrs. Simon Chippin. One sister, Mrs. Samuel Novick, resides in New York. The funeral service was held at Saint John today, the cortege leaving Fredericton at 9.30 a.m. Rev. P. Cooperstein, Fredericton and Rev. M. Beshkin, Saint John, conducted the services. OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, May 27, 2006 JACOBSON, SARA - Sara Jacobson of Fredericton died peacefully May 25th, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was ninety years of age. The daughter of Aaron and Layah (Jacobson) Cohen, Sara was born in Bath, N.B. March 22, 1916. Sara later moved to Saint John with her family. She was graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing at the General Hospital. She married Aaron (Ork) Jacobson and moved with him to Minto where she lived for many years. Predeceased by her sister Minna Rothberg of Toronto and her brother, Ben Cohen of Saint John, Sara is survived by two sisters, Jennie (Phil) Pinkus of Toronto and Leiba Katz of Brooklyn, New York and one sister-in-law, Jennie Cohen of Saint John. She had many nieces and nephews. After the death of her husband, Ork, Sara moved to Fredericton where she lived for the rest of her life. Sara was an active and tireless volunteer for the Fredericton Community Soup Kitchen and the Provincial Archives. The Archives honoured her for her volunteer work. She was a member of the synagogues of Fredericton and Saint John and a great supporter of the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum. Sara was known as an avid, competitive bridge player and a fiercely independent soul who proudly managed on her own. Special thanks to Lyndsay and Debbie and everyone at 4 South West at the Chalmers Hospital for their kindness and compassion. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 28th, 2006 at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424), followed by burial at the Shaarei Zedek Cemetery, Westmorland Road, Saint John. In lieu of flowers, donations to the N.B. Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Saint John Jewish Historical Museunm or the charity of one's choice would be much appreciated. He was in his 80th year. Mr. Rapaport was born in Poland, and was a son of the late Nathan and Esther (Zelda) Rapaport. He had been a resident of the province for the last 40 years. For the last seven years he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Sidney Koven, 293 King Street, West Saint John. Since coming to New Brunswick, Mr. Rapaport had been engaged in the fur, cattle and lumber business and made his home in Fredericton where he took an active part in community affairs. He was largely responsible for the erection of the Fredericton Synagogue and was the donor of two scrolls used in the church [sic]. In addition, Mr. Rapaport gave generously to other Jewish institutions including a donation of a scroll to a synagogue in Czechoslovakia after its destruction during the Second World War. Possessed of a charitable nature, he will be remembered for his kindness and consideration to many during his residence in the province. His wife and a daughter Anna died some years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Koven, West Saint John and Mrs. Louis Weinstein, Bangor, Me., one brother Louis Rapaport, Bangor; two sisters, Mrs L. Schwartz, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Mrs. Ida Shur, Bangor, as well as seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the residence of Mrs. Koven, 293 King Street West, from where the funeral will be held this afternoon with service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. At the Saint John General Hospital on Sept.20, 1952, Morris Rapaport, of 293 King Street, West Saint John, son of the late Nathan and Esther (Zelda) Rapaport, leaving two daughters, one brother, two sisters, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Resting at the residence from the funeral will be held Monday afternoon with service at 2:30 p.m. Internment in Sharei Zedek Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.82.
